TT fans meeting in London

I have friends visiting the UK from America over Easter. We'll be attending the British National Science Fiction Convention which this year is being held in the Heathrow area. This is a science fiction event, not a TT event. This would be a very expensive way to meet up with other TT fans if you are not interested in science fiction or SF conventions, but it you are interested in SF and would want to go to the convention anyway and meet up in the bar for a few drinks with other TT players between convention activities that would be fun.

I hasten to add and stress very strongly that this is the annual British Science Fiction Convention at which some TT players happen to be attending because we are SF fans. If you are interested in SF conventions too, this is the primary purpose of attending and I am not trying to organise a TT players meeting. But if there were enough people attending the convention who are also TT players, then we could arrange to meet up or something.

The venue changes each year depending who's organising it. Sometimes it returns to a place it's been before. It's an event for fans organised by fans, all done on a volunteer basis. SF conventions have happened in Cardiff before but I'm not sure if this major Easter one has been there before.

These conventions are not just for people who like SF books. It's for people who like SF films, tv shows and all sorts including Dr Who.

It would be great if some people can make it.

I'm glad you mentioned that! In fact, I don't want anyone posting to arrange meeting up for safety reasons. If you want more details about the event, please p.m. me and I might want to verify you are an adult if you are interested in attending. It's not generally advisable to meet anyone in RL who you've only previously "met" over the internet.

Cool, me like watching sci-fi, not so much into the rest (the colectables and dressing up etc), but interesting to see and discuss of course, plus extra chance to meet up with other TT players could be good.

Plus London is not a star-trek (excuse the pun, couldn't resist) for me I live in the SE

I think it sounds like fun and a safe opportunity to gather in UK's capital and share the fondness for SciFi and TT !

I am not a real SciFI fan , but once, when I was a kid and lived in USA, seing Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back - marked my life forever! ...

With the same strength but in a different way - TT had effected my existence as well when I was in my early 30-ies!

Needless to say that we won't lack the subjects for discussions if we'll meet!

If you do a search on the internet for "Eastercon 2008" or "Orbital 2008", you should find the official website. It's a large site and you'll need to hunt around for membership costs etc. Make sure you get the right site and not end up with last year's convention or next year's convention for instance.

You don't have to like all types of SF, like you don't have to be heavily into books. I like watching Dr Who, Star Trek and SF films and get much enjoyment out of conventions. If you are mostly into SF tv shows and films, then you might really like this event. There are also lots of costuming stuff and some people do dress up but I'd say most people don't.

Well isn't that just typical - I used to live 20 mins away from Heathrow, now its nearly 2 hour drive!!

Plus I have a wedding to attend in Scotland at Easter.... Oh well, maybe next time eh!

Uhhhhhh...I live weigh up in the highlands near lands end...But it's a possobility. I think we're going down there during the long weekend.

The Highlands are in Scotland, Lands End is in Cornwall. You can't get two places further apart!! Don't get too specific anyway please. Did make me chuckle!

As mentioned in most of the posts, this event happened at Easter. So, unfortunately you have missed this event if you were hoping to come along.

Unfortunately it's unlikely for a while.

A regular player of TT starting organising a "get-together" over a year ago and looked into places to hold it and even asking Disney to supply stuff to use. Unfortunately the event never happened because that player isn't around anymore and nobody else had the time to take over. I am sure an event will happen eventually.
