Exclamation possible update bug - sv1.0.14.13.test

We have found a possible bug when updating to sv1.0.14.13.test

this bug aplies to windows XP using the Windows Classic desktop theme

may also apply only to Nvidia cards,
but just in case i post here for all

If you have downloaded the update and cannot get into toontown,
either getting a lockup, black screen or an "out of sync" message (depends on monitor used)
delete the folder
C:\Program Files\Disney\Disney Online\ToontownTest
copy your screenshots out first!!!

change your desktop theme to
Windows XP theme

and click the destop icon to restart the download from the beginning.

good luck

additional notes

i KNOW this sounds all silly
what effect can a desktop theme possibly have?

but my PC, using XP theme had no trauma's,
Bonnies pc, which is 100% identical to mine, but was using Classic theme simply could not get into toontown.

We checked EVERYTHING, even down to bit sizes on driver files,
even logged into her account from this pc, - it worked,
logged into my account from her pc - no joy,

finally, in frustration, we changed her desktop theme from Classic to XP
and she got in,
once download complete changed her theme BACK to Classic and all works now.

One other oddity, her video settings in Toontown when she finally got back in were all messed up - outside the range of her monitors capabilities,
but the error code installed a couple of updates ago seems to work fine,
automatically downscaling the screen resolution until you reset them yourself.

Weird, but as we say,
"Welcome to Toontown"

Yeah, that does sound very odd. Desktop theme should have nothing to do with that. I use a Nvidia card and classic desktop theme on my WinXP pc and have had no problems when I was on today. I played for a couple hours this morning on test and everything was working great.

Actually using classic theme instead of XP theme, should make your computer run faster and smoother. Do you have DX9.0C drivers and the newest Nvidia drivers? Do you have WinXP sp2 installed, I do. Do the two of you have different programs coming on when you PC boots up? Maybe it's something running in the background? About the only things I got coming on is my virus protection, firewalls, and the bare minimum for windowsXP to run.

Grrr!

We had the same ideas as you, but Candy's and my PC are EXACTLY the same! The only difference is the games we have installed. We both have latest drivers and DX.

The thing we found bizzare about it was why did it work on Candy's machine without any problems but not on mine. If neither worked, I would understand it but Candy's was perfect. My was dead until I changed the theme. We have same updates, same version, same components, same montior, our screen resolution is set to the same size so why did the update change my TT Display settings and cause the "out of sync" error. The settings that it changed are in my monitors capabilities, I checked when I found out what they were.

It was just sooo frustrating to spend that much time trying to work out what was wrong and, in a moment of sarcasm, change the theme and have it work.

Sometimes, I'm really happy that I'm not an IT Tech anymore.

- Stupid Computer! WORK!!!!

LOL....Well, it always seems like it's something simple to solve the problem with computers. Well, at least for me. I've worked on tons. Only thing I could possibly see as the differences between computers is that one may have a corrupted driver file and the other one doesn't. The computers are too similar to be anything other than that. You'd have to run some diagnostic programs to attempt to hunt it down, though. Needle in a hay stack, comes to mind..lol.
