Cogsmacked

Under what conditions is it (or is it a bug?) that a cog will hit you for your entire amount of laff?

I'm not talking about a laff 15 in DL. I mean getting hit for potentially 40+ when the risk level is appropriate for your laff. It seems to only be in buildings - or has it happened to someone on the street? Why does this happen?

CogSnack: Bug or Feature?

I don't think that anyone knows for sure.

I've never seen it listed anywhere as either a Bug or a Feature. It does give the poor Cogs a chance against those dirty, rotten Toons, so the DisneyBots may have decided to leave it in. :)

It does seem that CogSmack is for all of your life, I've never seen a toon with, say, 80 Laff get CogSmacked for 40.

I don't recall seeing CogSmack over 50 Laff, so there seems to be an upper limit to it.

It does seem that CogSmack happens most in the buildings in the more difficult areas, like Dreamland.

It doesn't seem to be a specific attack from a Cog, I have seen a group attack do normal damage to 3 Toons, and CogSmack the 4th.

Since it's not a really common occurance, CogSmack is something that we may never really nail down as to the exact conditions that cause it.

I've been corresponding with Disney on this issue quite a bit. On one particularly frightful stretch, I was cogsmacked 3 times in 2 days (~5 hours).

What I have reported to Disney is that it seems to only happen [in my experience back to Beta 1]:

1) on the final floor of a building
2) on an area of effect attack
3) With 4 toons present
4) on the 1st toon who had entered the elevator (right-most toon from player's perspective)

NOTE: this is why I charge in first on the final levels, rather than my signature "moonwalk of victory"), in case anyone was wondering...

My theory is that the Area of effect attacks draw from a pool, like a toon's healing pool with megaphone or cane and for some reason on the final toon, the pool is emptied or otherwise not split correctly and the toon takes the full damage of the attack pool. This would explain cogsmack because the attack pool of a typical Dreamland cog might be 18x4 or 21x4 and few toons could withstand that. Further, the condition that triggers it may be so rare or actually require a hurt toon that we only see the cogsmack effect, rather than the actual damage.

I have demonstrated that it is NOT triggered by a miss as I once had thought.

Other toons have claimed vague recollections of it affecting middle toons, but haven't confirmed them nor have the 20 or so that I can recall.

If anyone else has information to offer on cogsmack, I'd love to see it.

In beta, one cog hit me and I was hit for 52 damage on a 52 toon. I thought it was a bug and reported it. I received no response, but I never got hit that way again.

It has been happening considerably more often lately. I saw 9 cogsmacks in a 2 hour period. With 3 toons or 2 toons, but always on top floor. It has been a real pain lately. Further I have seen 2 cogsmacks in a single round of attacks and then I was smacked in the very next round. These were mid 30s toons on Daisy's...

I always assumed the cogsmack was a feature intended to prevent "assisted power-levelling", by making it impossible to defeat a building that's above the level warranted by your personal laugh level, even if you go in there with three advanced friends. And that is the only circumstance in which I have seen it - it's like a Sign From The Toontown Gods that reads "you are not supposed to be here yet, and even your powerful friends cannot save you".

I have no idea why it would strike out on toons who are not overreaching their ability and/or traveling with a much higher-laugh crowd in order to gain experience more quickly.

Note: I do not question that there may be a bug that makes the cogsmack strike when it isn't appropriate, I'm just sharing my presonal experiences for those who may be reading this thread and wondering what the heck it is all about.

Is it possible, on the other hand, that you "smackees" were all the lowest-laughed toons of the bunch, and all your partners at the time were quite a bit higher than you?

I have seen the Cog Smack twice - both times on top floor by a level 11 Cog using a multi-target attack.

Weird Cogsmack

I was just in a 3 story lawbot building with 3 other toons. One of the middle cogs got cogsmacked with a single toon attak from the cog.

It did occur on the top floor. It may have been the boss that did it - of that I am not certain.

another time

I was cogsmaked this time.

It was on the top floor with 3 other toons.

I was the first person in the elevator (though this is not required).

It was an attack aimed just at me.

What was your LP before you got single-attack CogSmacked and what was the level and type of your attacker?

not certain

My laff was around 40-43. I don't remember the cog type but probably around level 8-9.

I was in a 4 lvl law bldg on donalds docks with 4 toons and we all got smacked on the 4th lvl, two for 40, then the other two for the remainer of thier life, 18 and 37.
I had to take a break after that one.

I was in a group the other day, I think with Wiggles, Summer, and Aguguis. Please correct the details, Summer if I remember wrong. We were on the last floor of a sell build in Dreamland. 3 of the 4 cogs we were fighting used area attacks in one round. One of us got cogsmacked on each attack, and the last toon died the next round, though I do not know if it was cogsmack or cumulative attack that time. In the cases I have seen, and I have seen it more in the past week than ever before, 3 toons take normal, like 15 or 21 damage, and the fourth takes full life damage for whatever they have left. In this case if I recall correctly we were all four at or near full laugh points at the beginning of the death round, and we were all 50+ toons, Agu and Summer at 58 each I think.

(on the final floor of a building
I had one smack me on the 2nd floor of a 3 story

on the 1st toon who had entered the elevator
above situation but i was 2nd in line

The 4 cogs and a multiple effect seem to be right on.

When I got smacked I was in the proper location for my skill level. I was between 39-41 laff and in a bldg in Daisies w/3 other toons. I'm not sure what cog hit me but it was not the highest level cog of the bunch, nor was it the boss since we were one floor away from the top.
