Zontars i agree with that to a point. I do think that in a battle most of the time the high cog should be left. But if you are in a battle and all cogs are over lvl 6 then it really doesnt matter because all gags will count the same (depending on floor).
But one can also take out the smaller cogs first in case a lure misses and you just cant finish the higest cog but do not want to be hit too many times. it all depends. But as long as all cogs are over level 6 then it really doesnt matter too much. (says me, but dont take my word for it, still learning daily :

So, if you're facing a 9 and three 7s, the 9 should be killed last.
Since I don't have any gags over level 6, it really doesn't matter as far as experience goes if you take out the 9 or the 7 first. Any gag will score experience on Cogs level 6 and above. Of course, you can "milk" the higher-level cog for more hits, so it's often nice to leave him for last. That way you can maximize the gags used against it. On the other hand, the experience bonus in buildings is so low with the current version that you may be better off to simply kill more Cogs faster instead of milking for a few extra points. -rcv- Kid Bugs |

For points.. I'm not sure if either way is better, just how many gags are used. For tactics, Structure is on the right track I believe.
The only reason that I would take out a lower level cog first is to 'ensure' a kill. If there are 4 of you and the building is challenge i.e. you are all low-medium level toons and the cogs are tough (9's up).. it may be best to conserve toon-ups. If you attack the highest level cog and survives, it will cause a lot of damage, especially if it's an 'area damage' cog like a mingler. Sometimes, this will force more than one person to use up essential toon-ups that you will need later. When more than one person uses a toon-up the chances of the rest of the party killing the cog is slim. Thats when you get into a heal-attack loop until the cogs are dead. Also.. if one person lures, then the other 3 must target a cog and kill it, so targetting a lower level cog will greaten the chance of success. If the lure fails, then there is still a good chance that the cog will still be destroyed. If the lure succeeds, then there will be all 4 of you to target and destroy the other lured cogs. 4 against a lured cog usually guaruntees a kill. As toon laff levels and toon-up levels increase.. then a little damage is fine and folks can throw in their traps or drops against high level cogs. There are no fixed rules to buildings.. but its far more relaxing bashing a building with players you know and have confidence in. Anxiety usually sets in when you realise the toons you are doing a building with dont have toon-up

what about toonup? anyone know if the succesfull full toonup matters what level the cogs are? Or what about getting a full bonus (full xp for gag on that floor)?
In b2 it seemed that the more laughpoints you filled in with the toonup, the more exp for the gag you got up to the maximum based on the floor multiplyer. |

As far as Toonup goes, it also is affected by the Cog levels. If you are only fighting a Level 3 Cog, then the Level 4 Toonup will give you no experience. This should be indicated by the display when you pick the gag.
Of course, you get no experince from the +! or +2 failed toonup (Which we nicknamed the 'Bunny Heal' for my tendency to fail them early on). |

Normally, I'll go after the biggest guy first (provided there are other higher level cogs around to hold on to), just to prevent someone getting creamed. If it's a question of a level 5 vs. a 4, I'll leave the 5. I guess that means my answer is a wishy washy: It depends

I usually will go for the high level guy first, so that they will not do too much damage to the party. However, if we can't kill the higher level guy, or it limits the gags we can use too much, then usually I won't kill them.
So if everything is high enough level that all of your gags will work, then it really doesn't matter, it seems. But if there was a level 5 and 3 3's, then I would leave the 5 so that I could throw cream/fruit pies at the level 3's. |

I'm of the opposite oppinion. . . I try to knock out the lower ones first in one hit or so. The less cogs there are to attack, the less damage potental against you.
I've been in buildings with rocking groups that will lure the cogs and then in the first round kill off 3 cogs and in the next round concentrate their attack on the remaining higher level cog. We'd go all the way to the top floor without taking any damage. -Kunuk Knip Last edited by Kunuk_Knip; 11-12-2002 at 09:09 AM. |
