can you make it so .bmp is allowed? i dont use fancy programs like gimp or photoshop.

If you use paint, then use 'save as' and select JPEG or PNG instead of BMP. BMP creates large files and I assume is disabled by fact that it allows more space for everybody, allocation of pictures is very healthy, I have several folders in operation and still space for loads more. If BMP was widely used they may have to reduce allocations for all members by a lot.

If picture use JPEG it's fine for that, for charts and tables I use PNG, which does not blur edges like JPEG, but still produces a high quality and 10th of size of BMP.

I've never had problem with using either format for multiple guides.

ok im having trouble trying to get it to work i cant put the image i want and i think it been approved my the mods im still stuck after reading all the instructions : _ :

First, copy the URL for the picture you're using. Make sure the URL is from the background image you're using and that the picture has been approved. Then go to Customize Profile. Look for the word Main in blue. Under that there will be a lot of boxes. Look for the one that has the words Background Image above it.

P.S. Instead of doing that you can also click on the blue/green box right next to the Background Image Box. Opening up that box will show you the images you've uploaded for your profile pictures. Just click on one and it will be set as your background.
