The subscription money is used to pay the monthly server bill so the site can keep on going.

Yeah. It's a option that Nick added. It helps him cover the costs of licenses, server fees, and other payments. He never uses the money for his own needs. In return, Nick gives you a special add-on for donating. (Signature, Userpage, Etc.)

Nick will even use some of his own money to keep the sites running, if the subscriptions for that month don't cover it all. These sites were created for us, not his own personal monitary gain.

Just as everyone else said all the donations goes toward paying for the server and everything. It's not like it's free. It even says that the months servers costs is well over a couple hundred bucks. Without donations, we probably wouldn't have this site anymore. A nice way to thank him for the site is by a giving donation
 And, you also get something in return!
