(I'd have posted this in the Wiki Picky forum, but apparently that's not possible- not only is the Wiki itself closed, but so is the forum discussing it?)
The whole point of a Wiki is to allow any interested party to participate in updating and adding information. A good wiki provides a more current and more complete reference than any privately-maintained database. (Wikipedia gets better ratings for accuracy of its articles than any traditional encyclopedia.) You have a great tool; you have a great community here; it only makes sense to put the two together. Within a week or two you'd have an incredible resource gathering the entire community's expertise into a single compendium.
And what's the worst that could happen? If you don't like the way the wiki evolves, you can always revert it back to the current version. If you're concerned about vandalism- don't be. If you link wiki privileges to board accounts, it's easy enough to deny both board access and wiki access to a poster who defaces wiki pages. Open editing does not mean anonymous editing. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_vandalism for more info.
It'd take a lot less effort to simply open the Wiki than it would for the mods to bring it current, and would give you a much better final result. Please consider it.
