Advertising in posts and links

Lately there has been an increase in the number of people advertising websites, games, and services so as a reminder the official policy is listed here.

Quote:
"Advertising" - Whether for personal gain or for private use, personal web sites, personal message boards, user created IRC channels and chat rooms which are not endorsed by Toontowncentral.com are not to be posted anywhere in threads (including avatars, user titles & signatures), chat rooms or in IRC as we are unable to maintain the level of their content, which may or may not be suitable for children. You may, however, direct members to look at your profile and/or PM ONLY your friends if you wish to share this information with them. If you participate in mass PMing people you don't know, we will consider this spamming (see under "Spamming"). Profiles may be checked for content periodically & if deemed inappropriate will be removed and will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
You may also find the complete Toontown Central policies located HERE

So basically you can't refer any website whether it's public or private? I'm not getting this at all...

I think that's fine. It's alright to refer to a site that has relevent information/pics/or other media. What's wrong is to say, "Go to Image Shack! They have the best prices around!"

I think the explanation in the rules is pretty clear as to why you can't refer to public or private sites if the site is not endorsed by TTC.

Because you have a limited amount of space in which to upload attachments - like your screenshots from the game, we need to let people know how they can still post screenshots. That's why that is stickied

We can not control what happens on any website other than this one, so we do not allow links TO ANY OTHER SITE. Yes, we are a bit flexible when someone posts a link to something on Disney's site, but that's because Disney is going to be a safe, family friendly site. And this is a fan site for a Disney game after all.

As Scrat said, there has been an increase in this site violation. There are also some who think we allow you to advertise each one of your sites once. THIS IS UNTRUE.

It also doesn't matter how many times you ask us, this rule is not going to change. We have visitors of all ages come to this site, pre-schoolers to grand-parents. If you don't want your baby brother or your Grandmother to see a site, then it doesn't belong here. To make sure that this site and any links on it are safe for Baby and Grandpa, we do not allow personal web sites, personal message boards, user created IRC channels and chat rooms which are not endorsed by Toontowncentral.com to be linked here. Getting a site endorsed by Toontowncentral is not easy - as you notice, we do not have many.

Let me clarify one thing for everyone before it comes up...
We allow links to pre-approved sites. Right now there are exactly two sites which have ever gotten approval which are user run, and they both belong to one or more of the moderation team.

We have looked at a number of sites in the past but have never given approval to other sites besides the CCG related sites.

I'll try to find where we put it but IIRC it was you may have one thread saying something like "I have a really cool site, see my profile" ... If you have multiple threads they'll all be deleted and the user will receive a ban or a warning depending upon circumstances.
--- Edit ----
It looks like this decision was a stop gap decision to address an issue.
We're still working on an official response but all the mods are currently working under the "1" advertising thread "rule" right now.

As an aside... Clans advertising for members on TTC and sending those members to a different forum to be members is being reviewed at this time as well. (not by me but by the moderation/admin staff, fyi)

How about members here directing other members to a subject specific website in their profile that does not follow the same posting guidelines as TTC and directing members to that site in multiple posts through out different threads?

Wouldn't that count for the One Thread rule? Or is it ok to do it in OTHER people's threads as long as you aren't CREATING the thread?

OH! and lets not forget the material on the website itself.

I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you're asking in each question, but let me see if I can answer what I THINK you're asking...

a) In the course of a thread... let's say a Harry Potter thread... if a member were to say, hey I have a site for discussing that topic, see my profile... *I* don't think any of the moderation team would remove that post. If they did the same in every thread no matter what the topic, we have an issue.

b) I'm fairly certain a) answers your question. But a user can create only 1 thread which says something like "Hey I have this new website go here".

c) I'm not clear what you mean by "OH! and lets not forget the material on the website itself" I THINK you mean on the site being referred to... If that's the case... periodically a review is done of websites in profiles and ones that are extreme are deleted out of hand. If a website in a profile is brought to our attention and is anything more than PG I believe it is removed immediately... if it is PG I believe a deeper review is done.

I hope I addressed the questions and I hope -rcv- or nick add their comments as the site administration.
