The difference between a mod and a regular user

It's pretty difficult to know who is a mod on the forums here, without having to go to the admin/mod list. Thier names are not highlighted, they don't have a different color to thier name, they don't have a special title. So if someone told me "Don't post this again" I don't know if it's just a regular user being mean or it's a moderator/admin. Of course, I take information posted by moderators more meaningful than other regular members.

Otherwise, I feel I have to study the moderator/admin list to keep track of who is a mod/admin.

Is there any reason for not making the leadership of this forum stand out from the rest of us regular members?

I don't know about any reason for not making the leadership stand out, but I can tell you honestly that all moderators will have the word Moderator or Mod under their avatar and usually if a moderator contacts you about something it'll be in a PM. I have my moderator status both under my avatar and in my signature.

Also, generally we won't tell you about a problem area in a thread, although sometimes it becomes necessary in order to discuss something with several people. All of the active moderators on this site though will almost all have the word "Moderator" or "Mod" in their user title...that's usually the easiest way.

Thanks Summers. You are the first person I see with the title "Moderating Mod" below your user name.

Let me go through some of the active mods on the leadership page that have no ID they are mods:
-rcv-
Blue Bizzy
Djlunatix
King Beany
pudgey
RAMChYLD
Rattlebones
TopCat
zman

Those are just a few. It seems only a few of the mods decided to keep "mod" in thier title. I think we could make the mods name highlighted a different color, or set a fixed title for the mods. (yeah, I know they would hate that idea )

But it's just a suggestion or something to think about.

Not all mods have the title "Moderator" or "Mod" under their user name. However, you can correspond the moderators name, to the names on the list. The person who tells you to not post something, may or may not be a moderator. To find out if they are, visit the "Forum Leaders" page located on the Home Page. Then try to find the name of the person who told you that, they WILL be on there if they are moderators, if they are not, their name will not show up there. To you that may not be the easiest thing to do, but you can not tell all the time from under their avatar, therefore it's the best thing to do in that situation. Something even easier would be to copy and paste every mod to wordpad. Then when a situation like that pops up, just open it up and check. This way you do not have to go back to the Home Page.

However, with this being said, if a regular Member says not to post something, you may want to listen to them. They may have read all of the guidelines, and may want to try to help you edit what you posted before a mod comes and edits it, however, with a mod coming you would have a consequence. This could range from just a warning to permanent banment(Depending on what you did, and if it was your first offense, of course). The best way to check if the User is right, visit the Site Guidelines. This way you will know whether to edit your post or not, or fix whatever you have done wrong. They're not always just trying to be annoying, or anything like that, alot of times they are trying to help you. However, it's your choice if you listen to them or not.

Hope this helps,
LBC

Wow thanks LBD. Don't think I would be going through all that trouble.

The example of "why" I would like to see a difference between the mods and regular users was just that, an example. I'm 100% sure I won't be breaking any guidelines around here.

I guess I just would like to know who the authoritative voices are on the forum while reading the many threads. My background behind it is I'm a super mod at another site and a moderator at other forums.

Oh well. That's alright though. I can manage.
Thanks for your time.

Sorry Mods, I concur

I agree with Silly took me months to connect who was a mod, without a list, might create a standard title or icon somehow, that makes it clear. Just an idea.

There are hacks ( no not bad ones) you can get to make the names of the staff stand out, like red and in italics in users online down there..
you used to be able to get them at vB.org.

Either Nick, the site's owner, asks for people to sign up or current moderators/admin recommend you as a good candidate whenever we need more help. They are never chosen just because someone wants to be a moderator or just because someone asks to be one. LOL. It's kind of a "don't call us, we'll call you" system.

All moderators/admin's names will show up as bright pink as of now. It should be fairly easy to figure out who is who for everyone concerned that they are or aren't talking to a mod. Better?

Bright PINK - oh my, the Guys are just going to LOVE that. Thanks Evil Kid Bugs, I'm sure the color was your suggestion.

I suggested a pinker pink, but nooooo, it has to be bright pink.

EDIT: Actually, it seems to be a pinker pink now. Awesome.

I pretty much know who all the mods are, since I've been here awhile. But sometimes you can tell who a mod is by how they talk.
