Lightbulb An invasion notification idea...

I had an idea for an invasion notification system. I don't know if it would be applicable but it would be FANTASTIC!

Below is a screenshot of what it could look like...

Perhaps an interface that would place a scrolling banner on the front page submitted through dropdown menus giving choices of cogs & districts. The banner would also show the time the banner was placed so there would be a basic indication on if the invation is over or not. The banner can only be removed by the original poster or a moderator/admin. The colors of the banner can, of course, be changed.

Like I said, I don't know if this is possible but it would be cool.

Whatcha think?

Its a really great idea but the problem is that the scrolling marqee (I do believe if my HTML learning is correct) can not be programmed by an outside user. What I mean is that you program it in while doing your webpage making. Now Im sure there is something in Javascript that could make it work but the problem would be you'd have too many immature people writing stuff like So and SO ***** or stinks, I am the greatest and what not (what not being swearing and stuff). There would be no control over it. Its a good idea though.

That's why input could only be entered thru dropdown menus. One listing all the cogs, the second listing the districts.

And it doesn't HAVE to scroll... the scrolling would just be a bonus.

The Marquee control COULD be dynamically loaded with text based on user input - this website is built using PhP which is a server based language and much more flexible in constructing HTML on the fly than Javascript when it's running on the client.

But WHY?

TOontown Central already supports the TIPS program. Toontown Invasion Pager System. We don't need more changes to TTC - we need more people USING TIPS!

(See the TIPS link off the main page)

Reason 1: Some people don't want another program running on their computer when they are running TT. I have enough programs running when I am playing TT as it is.

Reason 2: There are people who don't have TIPS.

Reason 3: Invasions are still posted on this website when they are discovered so why not make them top of the page instead of having to scroll to find them. It would also end any confusion whatsoever of where to post invasions. Even the noobiest of noobs to this site would know where to put an invasion!

Fair nuff - I have the advantage of running TT Fullscreen and monitoring the tips website on a second PC. BUT - the web version of TIPS is much smaller than the forums (when made large enough to still be readible...)

This I don't buy. I never had to download anything - TIPS has a web interface. Just register and it works.

Where? I mean I've seen posts about them from time to time, but are they put somewhere else like on the news front page? If they are I've missed them. And when I look at the TIPS invasion history, it looks like TIPS is getting more alerts than the forums here are...so unless I'm missing something (very possible), TIPS is already giving more accurate data.

Now one thought that occurs to me - If TTC's developers and the TIPS developer(s) collaberated, TTC could subscribe to tips.

Either TIPS could send TTC an email to a nonpublished mailbox and TTC could read the mail and post the news (tricky) or TIPS could host a webservice (a trivial exercise in .NET) which TTC could poll (since webservices are platform independent)...probably the polling model is the easier one - so long as TTC only polls periodically (once a minute, per say) and not once per request (ugh, the server load...)

Of course there are other ways...but in any event, I still think TIPS is the better source of info.
