Question Who moderates the Moderators?

I can’t imagine what a daunting task it must be to read every single thread and post to those threads; even if it is just for one or two forums. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to judge whether or not something borders to closely on being a “bad” post or thread subject. (There can be such FINE lines sometimes.)

However, as a member of TTC since June 13, 2003, I have read many a post and have been known to report posts when I thought they stepped over the line. I know it is hard sometimes when you feel especially heated about a particular subject, but I wish we could ALL “think before we speak.” Think about how your post will affect someone else. Remember, there are people behind those Toons. People of ALL ages. Please, be considerate of others.

This SHOULD follow true for the Moderators as well. I feel that too many (edit: okay, maybe one or two) moderators are responding to posts that they should just let go. If you are following the guidelines of the site when moderating, "you" (edit: sorry no other way to put it) should just let some things go and not bother to respond. PMs are a wonderful thing. If you are doing your “job” you shouldn’t have to defend what you are doing. I feel that some of the Moderators responses lately have been like a (pardon the expression) pie in the face to some of the posters. I get the feeling that a couple (edit: meaning two) of you revel in your status.

And maybe, I should just let this go, but I feel that too many members have had their feelings hurt over the past week or two, when they have tried to speak their mind. And, I have not been able to read every post, so maybe I am flying a little blind here, but I think what is good for one, should be good for another…

Nick, Scrat & -rcv-, the administrators of the site do as well as other moderators give feedback all the time on what they think needs to be done. Anytime I'm in doubt, I ask the other moderators/admin what needs to be done. You see, even when a moderator isn't on this site, we are almost always at one time or another online, chatting with one another.

I don't want to think that any of the moderators "revel" in their status but I do completely understand where their frustration has come from. And I'm not saying this because I am also a Mod.

You see, my FT job has me dealing with the public in a computer lab. Comments are always made to me and it does become hard to not take some comments personally. At work I get "When YOU changed Yahoo Mail I can't..." "YOU guys shouldn't filter" (that is now federal law BTW) "YOU should have looked at this before YOU..." "I'm not bothering anyone with my cell phone, why do YOU have to be such a" (cell phones are only allowed to be used in 2 areas - by the pay phone and in the lobby) "I can't get to xxx site on YOUR computers, its broke"

As you see, almost all those comments contain YOU. Its never "the library" should or shouldn't, and after hearing it personalized as YOU 150 times a day it gets really really hard to be detached. And for the last week or so, there have been several posts making these same type of generalizations on both sides of the coin. I want everyone to take a deep breath, go make some tea or coffee or cocoa, and before you hit that post button - try and read over it and put yourself in someone else's shoes before you hit that post button. You might be able to change just one phrase to make your point but not come off as someone saying "YOU need to..."

Thanks - my sanity appreciates it. I get enough of this at work, I don't need it here.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for helping to keep toontown central open to all of us. There are quite a few of us who appreciate yours and the other moderators work and dedication to this site. Thought someone needed to say something good to all of you , you deserve it.

We know you didn't Bailey. Its just that all the sillyness from yesterday and earlier has well, made me a bit less tolerant than usual. Your post gave me a nice excuse to post what I did, and I'm re-reading everything I think needs moderating several times so I know I'm not over-reacting today.

I understand your frustration. No problem. Glad I could help!
