Closing threads right after they've been answered

This is a site rant about how mods/admins close a thread right after the question is answered. I think it prevents further discussion, like:

Hey, who should I PM to get my name changed?

Batleth is a good choice.

Question answered, thread closed.

That's a bad example, yes, I couldn't think of any..., but anyway, someone might've wanted to add something like how great Batleth is, or how his name was changed, or who HE pmed, ya know? But if it gets off-topicy, then yes, by all means mods, please close the thread. I was just wondering if anyone else thought they should lay off the thread closing. Just my opinion.

Often, what you don't see is that there may be several posts that we delete that are off topic so we then close the thread since the question was answered and then the thread was hijacked. Sometimes, the OP sends us a pm to close the thread or actually posts in the thread to close it. If the question has been asked and we are getting 5-10 posts of exactly the same answer, there is no need to keep the thread open. Bottom line is, if you want to post something off topic (in your example, "how great Batleth is," then make a new thread that is about that topic.

Yeah, they have to close the thread to prevent it from getting off topic or if it has a bunch of similair posts. I don't think that they should lighten up on the thread closing at all.
