What is G-Rated?

Sorry if this is a stupid question to some but, I wanna know the exact restrictions of G-Rated. Of course one thing people have in mind is "No cussing" but I saw a show that had the rating G on it, with cussing on it. So I wanna know what exactly are the restrictions of G-Rated.

Rated-G means you should not use any words or phrases that would be inappropriate in a Childrens Disney Cartoon from 15 years ago. See http://tms.ecol.net/movies/ratings.htm for a more exact definition.

Before it was played did it say (insert rating here) For some mild peril and rude humor? When i watched Barnyard (yes. lol.) It said that. But are you sure you mistaked it for "PG"? (Parentol Guidence)

Just a side note, my brother was watching "The Proud Family" during the episode when Penny was a superstar or something and they used a pretty bad word at least 4 times in a row. I was shocked because this was Disney Channel! Odd how sometimes words can slip through the cracks.

I have schoolage children. Obviously I'm a little more lax in things I allow my teenage son to watch than what I would allow my kindergarten daughter to watch. Basically, when I am looking at posts to determine if they are appropriate, I think to myself, "Would I let my kindergarten daughter say that?" If it is something I wouldn't allow her to say/hear, I assume it's inappropriate.

Yeah things that are PG now, would have been rated R like 30 years ago. I mean look at Caddyshack, it was rated R!
