Unused accounts

Why are there so many accounts that haven't been or little used on this forum? Just going through the members list ive seen like 20 accounts with 1 or 2 posts that joined a year ago and havent come online since they joined. How much space does an account take up anyway?

I guess there are people who just like to lurk. I lurked for a really long time before I even posted at all...

If they posted a couple of times and then never came back, I figure they probably either forgot about this site or just lost interest in it.

I think accounts get deleted if they're inactive for a long amount of time. I had an ancient account I never posted on and forgot the password to that appears to be gone now.

I used to lurk around on this site for about 4 months before I started posting.

So I think that most people just lurk around.

Well most people probably just make an account just to have one. I know that's what I did. Or they could have made the account and didn't like the site, so they left.

Lurking isnt the problem, its the people who just don't use the account to see anything, as long as they come online its fine but if they just forget about their account or hate the site they should at least tell the mods..

But if they forget about the site, how are they going to remember to tell the mods? The person is probably a new member and probably doesn't realize you have to tell them if you want your account deleted. I know if I had an unused TTC account, I wouldn't tell the mods to delete it, I would keep it just incase if I wanted to come back.

If they forget about the site (which is kinda impossible, since everytime you use the internet that thing drags down with the recently visited sites), theres nothing they can do. They should use common sense and try to track down the way they got there, or ask someone they know.

There is little effect on the site.
And if people register and decide not to log in again, that's up to them.

What happens when all the accounts are full? A big clean-up, deleting old accounts that are never used?
