Effects of post counts:
Posts were deleted for what ever reason. It could be you posted in a topic that was not allowed, that you posted in the wrong place, or that your good post was stuck in between a couple of bad posts that got deleted. Whatever it got deleted.
Merging of double, triple and quadruple posts.
Deletion of old threads and posts as part of site house keeping. Not sure if they do that here.
Posting in forums or subforums where the posts do not count toward the post count. At least one site does not count RPG type posts to count toward the total post count, for example.
Someone with administrative powers is messing with you and changed your post count. At my site I gave a friend who likes to post a lot her starting count of 1,000. Yo EKB have you been messing with post counts.
Your post count is only a tool to show how often you post and lets people, especially staff, to know if a person is over posting. Some people post on every topic things like "I agree", "That happened to me", and "I play VMK but do not know". I know of someone at a site that did that a lot but it was "I like that contest" or "I do not know if they check IP of entrant", for example. The super posters often do not have anything new to say.
