I had the most unsettling one the other day. I'm in the cart for the tough course waiting on the countdown, and a dog jumps on with me. All's fine on the first hole, though it's obvious that the dog's not a really good player and not quite ready for the 9-hole course. I birdie the first hole, while he gets something like a 5, can't remember exactly. Second hole, I get another birdie and he doesn't get in the cup, winds up +3. So he says, "I need more laff points", I guess meaning that he wants to win a trophy. Then he stinks me when I par the next hole. Every hole after that, he continues to stink me and says, "Please go away!" several times. I'm thinking, you jumped on the cart with me, buddy, if anyone should go it should be you. And by no means am I sacrificing my birdies and work to my trophies to hang back and give you a win when 1) I don't know you, and 2) you can't sink "Seeing Green" (the gimme-one without the blocks) in 5 shots. By the last hole, he was taking all the time he could running down the clock before he shot, stinking me most of the way.

And, to show my sense of humor (those of you who know me will vouch), whenever he told me I stink I would say "Thanks!" or "Anytime!". Sometimes I'd do a "What's that smell?" followed closely by a "Oops!" and "Sorry!"

I just don't understand how some people can act that way towards a fellow toon. Just rude, if you ask me.

My sister joined a dog and a cat once and they didn't want her there (they were talking in s/f and yelling "you stink, please go away" etc.) I got mad so I told her just to mess around with them and hit the ball the opposite way everytime so they would get even madder and leave. Let's just say it was funny watching them get mad. Anyways, I really hate toons who do that.

I guess that's what I don't understand about the whole thing: What's the big rush?

Chip & Dale's isn't going anywhere. There's no time limit...and you don't get a bonus if you max it in a day instead of a week or a month.

It's not supposed to be work. It's a game. Have fun with it.

Just my advice. I know not everyone will agree with me.

This is all true.

I was trying to make the point that we all have different agendas, goals, etc. For some people that means taking it easy and just playing for fun. For other people the fun is seeing if they can do it faster or better. Neither approach is right or wrong just different. The manners part comes in when we all have to play in the same space together. We need to understand that our way is not necessarily the other toon's way and that we should be able to coexist without getting on each others nerves or in each other's faces.

My general recommendations are
  • be considerate of others.
  • avoid conflict when you can.
  • deal with conflict gracefully when you cannot avoid it.
To avoid going where you are not wanted:
  • Give others a choice. Don't jump into a cart as the clock hits 0. Don't even jump in after it hits 5. Give the others a chance to jump if they don't want other players.
  • Ask if it is ok to join a group ("Would you like some help?").
  • Find an empty cart and invite others to join you. ("Want to golf?", "Can you help me?")
If you get an extra toon in your cart:
  • Don't be mean. It could be a kid just having fun. Think cute 3 year old playing golf for the very first time. And don't forget that their parent or sibling with several awesome toons you'd love to have on your friends list (they are always in Nutty River) might be looking over their shoulder.
  • Make the best of it. Getting stinky makes it worse. Have fun with it, give advice and encouragement - the time will go a lot faster.
  • Move to a quieter district. If you want to play with just your group it is much easier in an empty district.
If you end up in a cart where you are not wanted:
  • Apologize. Saying "Oops" and "Sorry" lets them know that you know you made a mistake. Hopefully they will be graceful in dealing with it.
  • Don't make it worse. Playing slowly or badly to "get back" at the "mean toons" only makes it worse for everyone. Do your best to get through it quickly. Keeping quiet doesn't hurt either.
  • Leave if necessary. If the other toons are stinking you and angry your best bet is to leave. Of course if making other people angry at you is fun for you by all means continue. Isn't having fun by messing up the game for others the coolest part of Toontown? (that is a joke)

If it is fun to make others so angry that they want to see you dead then I am not sure what to say except: "You need help!"

Good luck and have fun!
