Losing Ties in Golf
Is anyone else having problems with losing ties EVERY single time? I played golf for the first time tonight, and I must have lost at least 6 ties, probably more. I know this isn't rocket science, but if it's random...shouldn't I win roughly half the time? I think all of my ties were with just one other toon. The only thing I can think of is all the toons were lower laff than me. Does a tie go to the lower laff toon? This is just very frustrating. I'm not ranting, but I'd like to know if I'm missing something.

Not quite an answer to your dilemma

!. Ties, when golf first came to test, a tie meant all toons received a win. Some players, and frequent posters on this forum, did not like that idea. Disney changed it so it went to one toon. But I doubt if it was because of the posters. It was probably because we were advancing to fast to earn our laff points. 2. Then ties were random and we attempted to figure it out. 2a. If you have the EXACT same scores on each and every hole, the tie seems to go to the toon that shoots last on the scorecard. This is not a rock solid theory, but it happens more often than not. 2b. If you know what honors means in golf, (the person who shoots first on the next hole because they scored the lowest on the most current hole), this person tends to win the random tie breaker more often than lose it. example, Hole 1 - Toon A - shoots a 1 Hole 1 - Toon B- shoots a 2 Toon A has honors because they have scored a ONE. Hole 2- Toon A - shoots a 2 Hole 2- Toon B - shoots a 1 Toon B has honors because they have scored a ONE. Hole 3 Toon A - shoots a 1 Hole 3 Toon B - shoots a 1, still has honors because he/she scored lowest on hole 2 End of Game A tie game Toon A Score = 4, but does NOT have honors Toon B Score = 4, but does have honors Toon B should get the tie because he/she has scored the lowest on the most recent hole, Hole 2. Neither of these theories is rock solid. Hence the words "RANDOM TIE BREAKER" you see on the screen. But if you apply this to your next game see if it works out. In my cases, it worked out 19 out of 20 times, for 95%, on Test. But once I saw the RANDOM tie breaker words appear, (Disney added those later, maybe version XXX.12) I quit keeping track. But in my mind I still apply them, and it is working on Open Games for me. I have lost three tie breakers and each time it was because I did not have honors.

Maybe toontown should go to fractional wins to settle this. It would work like this:
- one toon wins and gets 1 win - two toons tie, they each get 1/2 win - three toons tie, they each get 1/3 win - four toons tie, they each get 1/4 win That would be fair and not have to have the variations apparent in the random assignment. Over the long run it might not make much difference but at least you would be moving the numbers forward. I didn't see any issues with the original method, wins going to all toons tied for first place. It would make it a little easier to get the 3rd laff in that you would only have to play 100 or so of the 6s and 9s to get 100 wins if you tie. Currently you have to do at least 200 runs with a twosome sharing wins. Then you would finish the 400 multi-player completions on the 3 hole course. The current policy discourages people from playing with more than two in the cart. |

Although the tie-breaker "sudden death" would also make sense, it would just make the round go on longer.
I totally agree that Disney should just let all those who tied for first recieve a win. That really, honestly, makes the most sense. BTW I have the least wins out of all my SFs, and I NEVER win the tie breakers. |

Great feedback, guys! :)
All of you have great replies! Some of you have given me a little hope that I won't ALWAYS lose. Oof! At any rate, I don't like this system for ties at all. I think any of the options mentioned here by all of you would be better than what is in place...both get credit for the win, or the fractional system, or a sudden death. I would probably like the sudden death least since I'm not real good at golf and it would add extra time to the round.
Crimsom Dynamo, your idea is very interesting. I'm going to pay attention to that honor thing next time I play. Princess Kait, I'll watch for your idea when I do rounds with hubby. Unfortunately, he beats me most of the time. Ugggh! |

From someone who has worked to get ties...
When golf was opened on test we quickly discovered that you could tie and share the win. After that some of us started working to tie the round and score wins for all the toons.
While some would look down on this as cooking the books we actually had a lot of fun with it. It involved a lot of teamwork to make the score come out even and Toontown often threw curves to us. Sometimes Chip and Dale's cousin the Gopher would knock the ball out of the hole on the last putt thus blowing the tie for one toon. Other times someone would get a completely unexpected hole in one and the tie would not happen. You had to keep an eye on the score to ensure that you had enough room on each hole to burn shots to catch up with the person in last place. It also added a fair amount of time to each course as we had to take extra strokes to get the tie. My guess is that it took 25% longer working for ties. It might seem strange but it was actually a lot of fun. |
