Some reasonably newbie questions for the patient..

Hi all, I'm q.new to this game and am playing it with my madam. We've got a few questions and hope you can help us:

1) When a cog building has been reclaimed. Do ALL the participants get the reward form the new building's owner? Or is it just the first person in the newly reclaimed building's door to talk to them?

2) Why is it that my toon-up healing gag sometimes heals an ally for +8, and yet on other occasions, only heals them for a paltry +1? (it's currently at Lvl 1 and heals 8 laffpoints)

3) A kind fellow player advised us on getting the 'Lure' gag rather than 'Drop'. He couldn't explain why as we were restricted to speedchat only. Is there a reason why Lure is especially attractive compared to Drop?

4) Is it bad form (etiquette) to tag along with more senior party members to practise your Toon-Up healing? I didn't get any complaints when I did that for 1/2 an hour just now, acting as the team's 'wannabe Medic'. However, I really don't want to annoy anyone. And yes, I do throw in my 2cents worth of offensive gags into a fight too. (Not just T-up, T-up LOL*)

5) Is there anyone who wouldn't mind training or playing with a pair of newbies? We've been playing about 4 days now and have about 27 Laff Points with 4 in Squirt and Throw, and 1 in Toon-Up.

Thanks for taking the time to read. Hope to meet you all soon!

Re: Some reasonably newbie questions for the patient..

Reclaiming a building from the cogs returns it to its pre-cog state. There is no reward as such.
You can go to the NPC (non playing character) inside and shop for tasks, or return a task if needed. Any toon can do this. Note: not all buildings are "staffed" by NPC's. Those without are the "Cogs Inc" buildings that dont have a proper name.
Anyone who helped reclaim the building gets their picure on the wall inside the building ... go have a look at your toon!

2) Why is it that my toon-up healing gag sometimes heals an ally for +8, and yet on other occasions, only heals them for a paltry +1? (it's currently at Lvl 1 and heals 8 laffpoints)
Two parts to the answer: 1) the amount of heal is random, and sometimes only offers a very feable 1 or 2 points; and 2) the maximum points you get from any gag increases as you use the gag more and build experience points.

3) A kind fellow player advised us on getting the 'Lure' gag rather than 'Drop'. He couldn't explain why as we were restricted to speedchat only. Is there a reason why Lure is especially attractive compared to Drop?
Most experienced players would suggest toonup and lure as the most important gags to select early.

Toonup lets you help your group recover and get through a tough building or street fight.
Lure has the same benefits as a lured cog(s) will not attack. (Note: if two cogs are lured, try to all attack the same cog and leave the other lured cog for the next round. Much safer than fighting two cogs at once. )

Drop is a hard gag to build up as gags are played in their order in the list ... ie if you pick Drop it is used after every other gag has been tried. Often Drop doesn't get used at all because the other gags have already killed the cog.

4) Is it bad form (etiquette) to tag along with more senior party members to practise your Toon-Up healing? I didn't get any complaints when I did that for 1/2 an hour just now, acting as the team's 'wannabe Medic'. However, I really don't want to annoy anyone. If they really are Senior toons they will know by the level of your toonup that you need to build it up. They generally wont mind helping you do that. In fact, they will appreciate that you know enough to help out by healing. Also they will soon tell you if they want something else played .. "I think you should choose ..."

5) Is there anyone who wouldn't mind training or playing with a pair of newbies? We've been playing about 4 days now and have about 27 Laff Points with 4 in Squirt and Throw, and 1 in Toon-Up.
Post a few secrets on the Secrets forum. You can get several at a time, just keep clicking the Secrets button and write them down. They are good for up to a couple of days. Once you have a secret friend they are on your list forever .. or until one of you delists to make way for more friends (we can only have a maximum of 50 friends on our list ).

I'm sure that you will have no trouble getting a couple of friends from the Secrets forum and after that it snowballs. Your new friends will introduce you to others etc, etc.

Oh, and Welcome to Toontown Central!

Welcome to TTC

Pudgey did a great job answering all your questions. I would like to add my 2 cents tho In regards to Toonup, lets say the toon you are healing needs +5. If your toonup only heals for +1, then it is a "miss" and you receive no credit for it, just like when throw or squirt miss. If you heal for +5, then it was successful and will receive credit for using it.

As for looking for toons to help, I would be happy to. I will private message you 2 secrets to use.

And like Pudgey said Welcome to Tootown Central

One other thing about Toon Up. You know whether or not it hit by how many laughs you get from the toon you used it on. If it is only one (i.e. Heh or Ha) you missed, if it is more than one (i.e. Ha Ha Ha) you hit and will get skill up points. Nice to know if the toon only needed a few laff points, especially with the higher level toon ups, as the lipstick heals for around 5 even when it misses.

Much as Grasses mi Army goes!

OMG. Thank you so very much you guys! This is without a doubt, the most civilized forum I've ever visisted. We are members of the Amazon Basin (A very old Diablo2 community) and even THERE we run into trolls and flamers once a week; but here, everyone is so open and kind LOL*

I've received 2 secrets already and will hasten to add them to our list once we figure out HOW to LOL*

You all may not already know this, but we are playing from Asia and our playing times are both good and bad for our American / European friends. We play when everyone on the other side of the planet is already asleep; which may be great if you're an insomniac and looking for a reliable partner who isn't already overdosing on caffeine!

I had gotten the idea that converting a cog building bestows a reward as I'd seen Mickey (in the playground) say to visit the new owner of the building inside. Also, on another occasion (just last night), he mentioned something about a 'bronze star'. How do we get us one of those? (A star, I assume, would make us stand out more prominently from the crowd and consequently, easier to find LOL*)

Will hustle to utilize those secrets ASAP. Am at work now, but it will be the first thing I do when I drop home for lunch.

Don't hate me please: My office is a brisk 2 minute walk from my home. (Dodges the pies thrown*)

Stars are earned for taking buildings.

Its a running total of the number of buildings you are ahead. If you take 5 buildings but the cogs retake 1 then you are ahead a total of 5. 5+ are worth a Bronze star. 10+ is Silver and 30+ (I think) for Gold. All buildings have to be in the same district so its possible to have a star in one and not in another. It dosent matter where in the district or how many floors a building has they all count the same toward a star.

The more buildings you have however the more targets there are for cogs to take back so defending a Gold star can take a lot of effort. Ive heard from some toons that double Gold stars are possible but havent seen any in game yet.

So, I bring out our squirt gun in a real Dirty Harry 'Make my day cog punk..' kinda mood. And then she whips out her 30ft long firemen's hose.

Deflated, I bring out my $1 lure. Which promptly misses the point worse than Rev. Jesse Jackson at a KKK gathering. She, of course, digs me an even deeper pit of envy and despair with her hypno glasses lure gag....

My own 25dmg pie wilts like well.... Wilt Chamberlain being forced to undergo a lecture on 'conservative Christian values in Little Rock'.

BUT it was an incredible game. Lady Popcorn took us both about the town and showed us spanking cool gags and tactics. True, she had to lead me by ear (I'm surprised she kept her patience with my blundering about LOL*) and I was so envious and insecure that I played the game cross legged; but it showed us how much we have to learn about this fun fun game!

Thanks LP! You da whoa-man!

BTW: LP's real name isn't 'Roger', even though she seems to respond to it muahahahaha!
