Who is "Google Spider"?
I think I know, but could someone tell me what or who "Google Spider" is?
When I look at the active users on this site I'm seeing a lot of them viewing the threads...16 of them right now, along with members and guests.

Those are 'bots' that come from search engines like Google.
They probe the board and click on all the buttons to see what's going on here. You get those when you submit your site to Google or other search engines out there. It's not a person, just a program.

The first time I saw one I thought it was some strange person clicking away , except it happened 24 hours a day for 3 days....
creeped me out too.

Last time I looked at Who's Online it showed one of the Google spidersb0ts as "Registering" !
Personally I think there are enough b0ts in ToonTown as it is, but its good to see that even Google b0ts want to belong to this site. (j/k)

I'd like to know just how much bandwidth and server resources these things eat up. Google's spiders often make up about half of all the "Guests" on here.
Although the other search-bots (lycos, ask jeeves, scooter, fast-webcrawler, slurp@inktomi and turnitinbot) are also recognized in "Who's Online", you rarely see those. |

Oh! Eek!
I just checked Google for some Toontown related stuff, to see if their bots are doing any good. We are on the first page of results for a search of "Toontown", but only on the second page from a search of "Toontown Online". Kid Bugs is in there too, but Evil Kid Bugs has managed to stay hidden. What's scary, though, is where we show up in a search for noobie. Eek! |
