My first 15 laffer planted squirt instead of cake and I've found I'm glad I did so. Here's a few reasons why.
1. An cloud and a hose will take out a lured level 12 IF one of them is organic.
2. One orgo cloud + one non-orgo cloud will take out an UNLURED 12, no need for the extra hose.
Both of the above have saved my hide on numerous occassions where I was either on a short side or didn't get the backup that I would get in an uber run.
3. Since throw is used most often, it's easier to rebuild the birthday cake than it is to rebuild a gyser. I like being able to pick my gyser.
Yes, I know I can make a friend . . . Solitude just doesn't WANT any friends

I agree with you 100% that you're going to see green much more frequently on runs that use LLKR than on ones that use sound. I ran most of my VPs in river and danced much more frequently than I did on CCG runs (not counting uber). The key to surviving the cogs is to be able to think quickly and be flexible - plus a little luck LOL. Gyser or Wedding is great backup for when enough sound is picked to kill, just in case it misses. I also use it when I'm with toons that have picked gags that would leave multiple large cogs angry.
I tend to be a bit stingy with my SOS cards and tend use them mostly when I have no alternative. Toons hit can be a death warrant if the other gags chosen aren't enough to kill, I save that card for uber runs. Cogs miss has saved me from the glue factory on numerous occassions, especially when sided with someone determined to send you back to the pg by pulling out bike horns on 12s.
For the most part, the best way to learn is through experience. And don't get too frustrated. Some days I would turn green 10 times in a row, other days I would dance several times in a row. I would generally wait in front of the elevator until the group seemed receptive - ie, they weren't all stinking me on the platform and shuffling off as soon as I hopped on.
