TIP: Cog Damage Points

To be most effective in combat, you need to know which gag to use to defeat a cog. How do you know how many damage points it will take to defeat the cog?

There's a simple formula, and it works like this:
Damage Points = (Cog Level + 1) TIMES (Cog Level + 2)

Examples:
Cog Level 1 takes (2 TIMES 3) = 6 damage points to defeat
Cog Level 5 takes (6 TIMES 7) = 42 damage points to defeat
Cog Level 8 takes (9 TIMES 10) = 90

You can see how many damage points a gag uses by hovering the mouse over it. You only get points if you use a gag level that's equal to or lower than the level of the biggest cog in the group.

There are a few other things you should know:
1) If the cog is lured and you use throw or squirt, a 50% bonus is usually added (I'd say at least 3/4 of the time)
2) If two or more toons use the same type of gag on a cog, the points are added together, PLUS a 20% bonus is usually added.
3) When you get a Level 6 gag, it's about as powerful as the Level 5 gag it replaced. It gets more damage points as it gets closer to being "maxed" - having 9,999 points.

The math is pretty simple. Once you practice it a few times, you'll be able to quickly pick the right gag every time.

We already know that... but a leveled-up cupcake can kill a level 1 cog and level 6 throw and squirt when maxed can kill a level 6 cog.

In the future, should I check with you before I post?

A level 5 drop can kill a level 6 cog too. Also, I think you are a very smart toon for figuring out how to calculate a cog's health by its level. Good job.

The formula always works.

I updated my original post at the top of this thread to reflect the comments you've made.

I didnt know that (I dont really read the Toontown FAQ's). But you probably have to be pretty smart to find out the formula yourself, though.

Level 6 gags are a special case as they are disproportionately more powerful when maxxed especially. The formula for lure bonus damage is an extra 50% of the throw or squirt damage as you state. It is supposed to be applied all the time when lured, however, there is a bug that appears when all the cogs did not arrive at the same time. This is when some of the cogs will not get the lure bonus damage. Details of this bug are in another thread and I admit I do not fully understand it.

The bonus for multiple toons using throw, squirt, or drop together is 20% extra damage.

I'd like to add that level 6 gag damage doubles (from experience)
from what their base damage is to maximum damage.

Level 6
Sound
Base: 25, max: 50

Squirt
Base: 40, max: 80

Throw
Base: 50, max: 100

Drop
Base: 85, max: 170

Trap
Base: 90, max: 180

This provides a quick reference if you're trying to conserve cog hit points for
maximum gag usage/experience earnings.

Dippy, thanks for teaching me this formula a while back!!
Last night, Lucky Ducky and I did a 5 story Lawbot bldg in DDL. She's a 92 and we were trying to get her new Level 6 squirt.

Well, we came out healthy and defeated the 5 story. We didn't get to work the squirts as much for fear more cogs would come out the elevator...
[sorry about all those, my son helping me type here LOL]

But my point>>>.. the formula worked like a charm. I kept track of damage points by adding them and then knew what gags to use or what could be used to finish defeating the cog. It was sweet!!!!! So, I owe you one, pal!!! You Rock!

WHEN MAXED -- You forgot this/these Deputy Dudley:
and a level 7 cog for squirt
and a level 8 cog for throw

if the cogs are lured

level 8 and 9 for squirt
level 9, 10, and almost an 11 for throw.

Lightbulb

Maxed TNT will kill a level 11 cog (almost but not quite a 12 )

Maxed Piano will also kill a level 11 cog.

Maxed cake rocks, killing a lured 10 is ciritical.

The multiplier for two similar attacks is 10% (works for sound, throw, squirt and drop)

The multiplier for lure is indeed 50%, but it does not work for sound and obviously drop will miss if lured. The missing multiplier for cogs coming into battle after the first round is a drag. I sometimes forget about it...

Cool

Thanks for the info on figuring out the points needed to kill the cogs. I didn't realize it was mathmatical. I've just been using the trading card they sent me with the info on it.

I knew that, but he just said they couldn't kill their own level. And trap requires another gag (lure) to kill cogs its level. That is why I didn't include those.
