You CAN transfer a toon from one account to another
I sent a mail to Disney telling them I was thinking about opening a 2nd account and wanted to transfer my 2nd toon to it. They said (paraphrased):
"Sure, we can do that. We might not always do it, and we might not be able to do it for everyone, so just be aware of it. Send us the 'from' account info, character info and 'to' account info and it shouldn't take more than a few business days." I made a second account, sent them the info, and true to their word, today I logged in and had my 2nd toon in my second account. Took about 2 business days. Life is good. |

whole new can of worms
Hmmmm.
Ok, now if anybody is interested I will put a maxxed out toon on E-Bay for sale. Sounds like Disney is encouraging this type of activity. Yeah, they said they won't always do it. We will see. Now...which should I sell? Where should I start the bidding?

Do a search on E-Bay for "Asheron's Call" or "Everquest" and you will see what is happening. Trust me, it will happen. If not toons then the whole account will be sold. I agree that this is a nice option to have but it will become abused.

Right now there's no real attraction to buy a maxed-out toon, though. There's no high-end game (like Cog HQ). However, if they do make it worthwhile to play as an uber toon, then you can be sure that somebody with a lot of disposable income is going to start a toon, and decide that while he/she likes the game, there's no way they're gonna do thousands of buildings before they can get a peek at the top-end stuff. That's when the ebay trolling starts. Edited to add this in: Also, when someone starts playing a game and they want to be able to access the same content as their friends who have already been playing for a while and are way ahead, they'll look at Ebay. For example, say you make six figures a year, but since you work so much, you don't have the time to spend 4+ hours a day to keep up with your online friends in a game. Spending $300 on an account won't make even a tiny dent in your wallet, and it'll enable you to play with your friends. I know a guy in that situation. Right now a toon can play with anyone no matter their laff level, but if they do require a certain amount of laff to access areas like cog hq, then....

I think (hope?) that Toontown would not have as much problem with people buying characters as the other games have.
It seems that most of the high-level character and item sales for the other games is based upon PvP / PK-ing. Since that isn't really much of an issue with Toontown, there shouldn't be many people wanting to buy maxxed-out toons. If you want to PK or Grief other players, you can do that with a 15-Laff noobie. About the only advantage that a maxxed Toon would have in Griefing would be in getting others to go into buildings with them. A lot of people won't go with a noobie, but would welcome a maxxed-out Toon. Then, the Griefer could proceed to do all the wrong things. It still wouldn't guarantee that the intended victims would get killed, and the Griefer could only get away with it once. The other potential Grief tactic would be to clear the Districts of buildings, making it difficult or impossible for others to complete tasks. That would be possible on the Test server, with only two districts and a slow rate of building take-overs by Cogs due to the low Toon population. On the main Play servers, however, it would take a whole lot of Griefers working together to make a dent in the overall Cog building density. Even then, the rate of building take-overs would be much too high when there are over 1,000 players online at once. -rcv- Kid Bugs |

The point is that Disney can and has transferred an existing character to a different account. |

Selling stuff in those games is forbidden by their license agreements. I know it happens, but it's not supposed to.
Sides, what does one do with a maxxed out toon in Toontown anyway? Wait for the Cog HQ to open?

Selling stuff may not be allowed in the EULA, but it's very, very hard to stop. Savvy Ebay sellers use photo editor to crop out names or any other distinguishing characteristics in the pics they post of their account. They also won't tell anyone who e-mails them the name of the character they're selling. This prevents the game company from laying down a 'sting' by pretending to be a buyer. What DAoC did, for example, is ask E-bay to remove any DAoC auctions (this worked for a while, but apparently Mythic Entertainment gave up policing ebay because the auctions have been back for months). Also, E-bay isn't the only way to sell one's account.
The only real way to stop people from selling accounts is to prevent more than one credit card to be used to pay for an account...ever. However, this can hurt legitimate original users too, if they cancel a card or decide to use a spouse's card. I believe Everquest does this.
