Reminder about "task shopping"

I'm sure someone will have talked about this somewhere and there may even be a prominent thread about it somewhere. But, I've seen so many toons with very difficult tasks recently that they don't need to get, I just had to post about it!!

When I need a new task, this is what I do ...

a) Don't take any tasks for large number of same sort of cog (example 240 Bean Counters or even just 50 Money Bags)
b) Don't take any tasks for a large number of buildings

But, if your task is to visit a particular shop in a particular street and you are asked to do a certain number of cogs (llike 25 Number Crunchers) then there's nothing you can do about that.

I've seen people with tasks for 1000 cogs in Donalds Dreamland (and that was just for a clothing ticket! OMG). I've seen people who have to defeat 400 buildings for a task and wonder why they decided to take that!!

Moral of all this is = did you know you can keep going to different HQs and shops in streets until you get offered a good task for the same reward? You might be being offered loads of buildings to get your next back pack or jellybean jar, DON'T TAKE IT!! If none of the four HQ officers in that HQ are giving you nice tasks for that reward, go to a different playground until they offer you something better for the same reward.

If you have anything to add to this, feel free!

There sure are a lot of people that don't fully comprehend how long it will take them to finish those painful tasks. I remember when I first started playing TT, I (by accient) clicked on the 250 or so Glad Handers, and ahhh boy was it a pain! I'm sure there are lots of individuals that are just starting TT that dont fully know about shopping around. Its a good point and its something that I do want to put into the Tasks Guide.

That would be great! There really are so many people out there with very difficult tasks and I am sure some of them haven't clicked on them by accident (although I appreciate some are). But I have seen a few people with up to four difficult tasks and they can't all be chosen by accident.

Ah this reminds so much of thhose painful low-laff days >_<. It wasn't until a friend told me not to get specific cog tasks that I actually started task shopping. Good moral, LISTEN PEOPLE. I've got limits, no I am not helping you defeat 50 Mover and Shakers unless it's a shopkeeper task. :P

Strangely enough, I've not particularly noticed if you are offered different tasks if you go to the same playground in a different district. I've always got what I've wanted by just changing playground. Anyone know off hand? I could go online now and check this out I suppose! LOL

From what I recall, you still get the same tasks on the same playground in a different district.

But...

If you take a task in a particular HQ then you can go back to the officers you have already "talked" to and the tasks will be different.

Also, the HQs on the streets have different tasks from the playground.

Poor Miss F, my first toon through DDL, thought you just had to take the best task on the list the first HQ officer gives you. So she defeated 400 2+ story buildings, 250 micromanagers and 280 tightwads to complete DDL! OOF! But she maxxed her trap in those buildings (alone lol).

Yes correct, different district, same HQ same tasks.

Different HQ same District, different tasks.

However in doing research for HQ tasks for Dogfathers Complete Task guides, I have noticed that you tend to get the same tasks repeating after looking a while, so search around, but don't take too long, as you may have already completed the tasks you were skipping, if you spend too much time looking around.

If you take a task, the tasks will change, so search same places again.

Shops again have different tasks, so worth searching them aswell.

Rules of thumb is:
1) Don't take the first tasks that are offered
2) Search around Playground/Street HQ's and Shops for widest selection
3) If you take a task, then new tasks will apear where you've just looked
4) Most go to Shopkeeper tasks can't be skipped (but some can)
5) Try to get cogs anywhere, or tasks that allow flexible cog searching (Try to avoid large numbers of cog types or cog ranges)
6) Getting tasks for lots of builds, or high level builds is all well and good, but make sure you have ability to do them quickly, ideally solo, or with friends. If you rely on randoms in busy dists, remember this, chasing builds and getting there in time is not always that easy!
7) Getting tasks for in HQ's or cogs that are in HQ's as may seem good idea, but if you not strong enough to do so, you may struggle to get in the part of HQ you need!
8) When picking tasks, look at what you have already, and try to match up tasks when picking.
9)If you have just taken a 'goto shop keeper task', then go and speak to shop keeper, find out what he wants you to do, you may be able to match up you tasks with what shopkeeper is asking then.
10) Goto the growing/developing Complete task guide by Dogfather, this will help you find out most tasks before you even take them, especially shopkeeper ones. Toontown Tasks Guide: All playgrounds
