Don't underestimate the power of the... trap?
Hello all! I'm writing this as a sort of objective look at how the Trap line of gags seems to be highly under appreciated. I've read a number of posts of people wishing that they had not chosen to go Drop-less and instead forgo their Traps. While I'm not advocating a boycott on Drops, I am hoping that perhaps I can show you how in many situations, Traps can eventually become as useful and in many cases MORE useful than Drops.
Lure is already a highly important gag and its usefulness cannot be underestimated. Anyone who has done a VP can tell you that Lures are indispensable. When used in conjunction with Traps you are guaranteed a more powerful hit than any Drop of the same level. Of course this requires two Toons to coordinate their attack in order to make it work. Drops, however, do work in a much similar fashion. When someone uses a drop alone there is about an 80% chance that it will miss, unless another Toon "stuns" the target with one of their gags before the Drop is played. Even then you do not have the 100% chance of hitting like you would have with a Trap. Also, since Traps and Lures sequence before Drops, you are dealing more damage to the target earlier in the combat round, allowing the remaining Toons to use less powerful gags to finish off the already weakened target.
Now, if you can find someone who has chosen Lures to be their organic gag (which I assure you is not hard to do), consider this: Lures and Drops are the only gags that have a Low accuracy however, Organic Lures have a Medium accuracy. Organic Drops still remain Low accuracy, but have a damage increase. The odds of succeeding in Luring a target into a Trap is significantly higher with Organic Lures, and the resulting damage will also be higher than a Drop.
Once again, I am not trying to say that Traps are a better choice than drops, but I am saying that they are an effective and viable alternative. In fact, the combination attack of a Lure, a Trap, and a Drop on the same target in a round is unimaginably devastating. For example: 3 Toons are battling a level 12 Cog
First round
Toon #1 chooses Lure
Toon#2 chooses TNT
Toon#3 chooses Big Weight
Toon#2 will act first tossing the TNT, next Toon#1 will attempt to Lure, if successful, the Cog will be blasted for 180 damage (not quite enough to kill the level 12), however the Cog will be sufficiently stunned for Toon#3 to attack with his Drop, greatly increasing the chance of it hitting for an additional 45 damage. That's 205 damage in one round, which is more than enough to take out a level 12 Cog.
I hope that this post will in some way be informative to those of you who are struggling, as I did, with whether or not to choose Traps or let them pass. I wish you all the wild and wackiest adventures, and I'll see you in Town.
