Premium version of Toontown/Comcast deal

A news article today talks about a Disney deal with Comcast that includes a "premium version of Toontown scheduled to arrive next year". It provides no details, but I thought it was worth passing along.

Preschoolers??

"...and Toontown Online, the entertainment company's site for preschoolers."

I don't know too many preschoolers that play TT.

I wonder what this Premium Toontown is ...
i hope if that channel does get created that you don't have to have Comcast cable, because I already have Cox...
Probably not, but a boy can dream can't he?

preschoolers

Yes many children at that age can play the games. Our grandson been on the computer for the last 5 years .. He's 6 years old has been playing TT for over a year now. We would love to see a game geared for his age...that is played by children ...

I really hope that this premium version of Toontown available to Comcast subscribers isn't much more than a discounted rate or something. It would be rather unfair to those of us who do not live in a Comcast service area if special areas of Toontown were not available. It's like sort of a geographic predjudice. I mean... In the town I live in, the ONLY options are sattelite (Dish Network, etc) or Time-Warner. We get Road Runner High Speed and DSL here, but it is sort of a hick town in the middle of nowhere. (How hick? We JUST got DSL in March and are currently in the Beta Testing phase of Cable Internet... where the rest of the world around us has been high speed for over a year... ugh)

I pay my monthly subscription for two accounts just like everyone else... the only difference being that we choose to use gametime cards rather than credit cards. It is annoying enough that we do not get an alternative to the age verification, a restriction based on Comcast's absence in our area would be over the top.

Just my opinion, though.. I mean, I might feel different if Comcast was available down here... *shrug* I would probably think it was really cool... anyways..

Edited to add: I wouldn't object to special toon-only features.. what I'm talking about is access to new playgrounds, etc. THAT would be too much...

Based on the coment about preschoolers, it sounds like whoever wrote the article doesn't know what Toontown is. It is possible they are refering to something else when they mistakenly said Toontown and it is a premium version of whatever that is that they are going to have. Some kind of mistake like that seems likely.

I've talked to reporters before and then seen something I mentioned refered to as something else as well as getting quoted as feeling the exact opposite about something as what I actually said. You just have to be careful what you say to reporters and how much you believe when you read reports, especially when the subject is essoteric and the person writing probably has no clue what they are talking about.

That's a good point... hadn't considered that. Perhaps the reference was a Toontown Online edition *for* preschoolers only... or something like that.

*shrug* It would be kind of silly for Disney to go and restrict based on your ISP, eh?

Er, somebody messed up with this story.

The pre-school element is called Toontown, not Toontown Online. Toontown is where Roger Rabbit, Mickey, Minnie and the Chipmunks reside. It also has it's own section in many Disney parks. Toontown Online is advertised for 8-13 (or should that be 8-80?)

Wouldn't it be nice if the Comcast 'premium' version would offer better game performance via the enhancement of Comcast's servers?

That's what I would want from a Comcast premium version. Never having memory drain or preformance lag again. Wouldn't THAT be the life.

i'm guessing on this, but if Premium Toontown was for youngsters only, (4-8 years) and it was separate from teh regular TT... THAT WOULD ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more young noobiz!!!!! no more noob harras ment by young kids!!! well yes still noobs out there, but atleast they would have a little more mature actions...

correct me if i'm wrong on all of this

Thats what I was thinking as soon as I read it. Toontown has existed for many years. They are referring to a cartoon channel. At least thats what I believe it to be.
