No more Name Changes...

Just got off Live Chat...Replaced my real name with My Name....

My Name: I would like to change my name from silly oscar pickleknees to Spartan Thunder
A Toontown Live Customer Support Representative will be with you shortly! Stay Tooned!
Toontown Support: Please accept our apologies, but the Name Change service has been discontinued, and I will not be able to make the change you are requesting.

If you would like a Toon with a different name, you do always have the option of creating a new Toon, and having more adventures with them in Toontown!
Toontown Support: Can I help you with anything else today?
My Name: There is no way for me to change my toon's name
Toontown Support: You do have the option of creating a new Toon with the name you desire to have.
My Name: Is this something that just started? I've changed toon names in the past
Toontown Support: Yes, the policy was recently changed.
My Name: ok, bad policy, can I ask why
Toontown Support: The policy simply is that name changes are not allowed any longer, I do not have any reason for the change.
My Name: ok, thanks
^ NEWEST ^

Toontown Support: I'm very sorry for any inconvenience, but I am unable to make any name changes.

What a bummer!

I think this policy change should qualify as "news". Mods, could you please move this thread to the "News Articles" forum so that it will appear on the front page?

It's too bad that they stopped allowing name changes, but it's probably because it was happening too often. If lots of people were changing names (and changing them multiple times), it was probably taking up too much of Toontown employees' time.

I agree that in it's current format, it was taking up too much Disney staff time therefore it's uneconomical to keep doing it.

But a different question comes out of this - why can't we change it ourselves? Doesn't need anything spectacular. Have an 'options' screen for each toon, where you go through the whole "Choose a toon" process again. The only difference is that you keep your toon's stats at the end of it.

This way, not only can one change the name, one can change the toon as well (it's only when I get to 50LP do I realise I want a cat not a duck, for example!)

Wishful thinking, I suppose!

well, how about this:

at the bottom left corner of each toon, a button will be available where, if you click on it, you will be sent to the create a toon screen.(the button will look like the one you get if your name gets rejected, and you need to type a new one in)
Here, you can change your toon name (toon species and color arent really needed, but can be added)
HOWEVER, just like when you first want creating a toon, you must wait for your type-a-name to be accepted. if you change it to a quick-name, then there is no need to wait

There's another reason to disallow name changes.

If toons are intentionally causing trouble, changing their name to something new would make them seem like a different toon to the toons they caused trouble for before.

I've always been surprised that TT has allowed name changes at all. No other MMORPG does.

This quote right here is probably the reason WHY the policy was changed. Abuse of the system. One week a person has one name and the next week they change it. You abuse the system and you lose privileges.

I've changed only one toon name.

I've changed my daughters toon name once. That's the only time I've changed a name. I agree, there are probably people abusing it. I didn't mean for it to look like I change names regularly, just that I have changed a toon name in the past.

thanks

can someone tell me HOW you have a live chat with a toontown rep? I have a few things I'd like to ask them personally and not by email since half the time I get no help in emails. Appreciate the help on telling me how.

Oh, no... I understand that. That's why I said "a person." I wasn't insinuating that you abused the system. Sorry for the confusion.

I have read on here though about people who have changed their toon's name numerous times and that is abuse. Especially for a service that does not have to be offered. As someone said in another thread on this subject, Toontown is the only MMORPG that was allowing name changes. All other games had the response that you could make a new character with the name you'd like. And, actually, I agree!

They had this problem on the Everquest MMORPG, except in that game the problem was more about players ripping off other players, eg, taking advantage of gullible new players, offering to hold money for someone and getting a name change so they couldn't be found afterwards, etc. Sony's solution was to start charging a fee to players for a name change, thus eliminating frivolous or malicious name changes. Now only those who want to change their character's name for aesthetic purposes would be willing to go through with it.
