Haven't read the entire article, but I'm sure Wikipedia will explain it well. Many other countries celebrate it, including the UK, but we don't in the US.

I am from the UK, so I will tell what Boxing day is. It's on the day after Christmas, and people USED to open Christmas presents on that day. Now we open them on Christmas day, but Boxing day is still refered to like the day after Christmas. We don't usually say the 26th of December. Hope that clears things up. ^^
