agree with a lot of your points

If they hold it at one of their Parks in Orlando, that is going to be their cheapest option. Disney has a reputation with money and I can't see them doing multiple worldwide venues simultaneously or using the cruise liner either as that would also cost them more money than at a park (and our ticket prices would go up enormously).

I really love some of these ideas but while Toonfest is still a relatively new event (this is only the second time they've done it), I'm guessing they won't do anything more exciting than just finding a single suitable cheap venue and they won't have to pay for hiring their own property. Maybe one day they might do Toonfests across the world, but they will be at Disney parks (Paris, Hong Kong, Japan etc).

But if Toonfest was really so popular last year and this one also proves very popular, you never know ... maybe Disney will have to seriously think about organising something on a much bigger scale. Keep the ideas coming in, maybe some of them will actually filter through to those who organise the event!

I can't see them doing it on non Disney property when they own GREAT tourist property and theme parks are a huge part of their business. What I can sort of imagine is a communication breakdown between Walt Disney Internet Group and the people at the parks that put events together. Could we fill a cruise ship with paying toons? Maybe not. They got 1500 at Disney studios ( not a theme park but owned by them, we bought food and TOYS at the Studio store) and the tickets sold out immediately. Again they gave very little notice and people still were upset they could not get tickets it sold out so fast.

My thought would be to hold the event at WDW and DL simultaneously and plan well ahead. I would not pick the busy summer months I would pick a night Magic Kingdom closes early. And I would have it in toontown. I know nothing of the logistics of this but they have "Toontown Morning Madness" and private events at Disney are not unheard of. So I think, if they gave enough notice, they could get the numbers they need to justify it. To me it would be an event like Mickey's Very Merry Xmas where you buy a ticket to get into park when it is otherwise closed. Mixing toons and non toons would diffuse the party too much. They have the hotel base ( they own them ) at WDW and DL and could offer toon discounts and packages. A toon cruise? It might work. But I think if I were Disney I would try these ideas first.

Someone, I don't remember who, but I think it was a cast member, said this would be the last year it was held at the studios, somewhat wi****lly, last year. And I think that is because they want to meet the demand and not be turning people away willing to travel long distances for this event.

I am frustrated because I am seriously considering going but I just am not going to book a flight until I know I have tickets and have an idea where they are holding it. I made hotel res but those can be cancelled. I want to have an idea what sort of thing I am investing in before I travel to Florida in August.

Much rather to go Disneyland in October or WDW in December when it is decorated for Christmas. We have done that every two years since 2002 and it is really fun time to go. The crowds in early Dec are managable, the resorts have their best rates and Disney goes all out for Christmas. It's amazing.

One thing I don't get is that if you call to book a vacation you get the BEST most personalized service in the industry. Everyone is universally nice. If you go to a toonfest, you see the people who work for toontown are just as nice. But if you send in a question, you get an autogenerated response that makes you think of your least favorite cog. They need to fix that.

Yes!!!! Our family will be going to the Toonfest. We live one hour away. We will stay on property at WDW. Yes August is hot however, the smart people go to the pools or take a rest during the heat of the day (1 to 4ish).Then u r refreshed for the rest of the night. Parks stay open later in summer. I hope they do the Toonfest event in the eveing , it would be much more tolerable than in the middle of the day. Maybe some of us could make a plan for a side event such as Blizzard Beach ect. PM me if u r going so we can get to know each other. I can't wait to meet so many of my Toon extended family!! Toons of the World Unite!!!!

Will UK residents be able to buy tickets? Toonfest is not being advertised to UK players and I'm worried if I can't buy a ticket and then arrange for a friend to buy them for me I'll be too late. I suspect the tickets will sell out totally within an hour or two of them going on sale so I could do with knowing in advance if I'll be wasting my time trying to buy them myself.

Fantasia Gardens ( the mini golf place)

I called toontown and they said this was not secret and ok to post this

They are having it at Fantasia Gardens and the guest limit will be 750 people.

Fantasia Gardens is closest to MGM and Blizzard Beach for those booking hotels.

They had no other news and said they would be posting this very soon. Oh, she said the price it was VERY nominal...similar to last year but I forgot exactly the cost. She said they expect it to sell out VERY quickly.

Here is a WDW map

http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/propertymap.htm

If you look at the tip of the sorcecer hat of MGM that is where Fantasia Gardens is. It is close to Swan Dolphin hotels and Blizzard Beach.

I am pretty sure we won't be going. I have to weigh the cost with how amazing I expect the event to be. And we can't buy tickets for airfare until we know we have to toonfest tickets. I also think, that the East Coast people deserve a chance and that they probably will have it on West Coast again next year. Still not sure. A little sad.

Interesting location and not many people. So basically they are having it at a minature golf course? Wouldn't think there would be lots of room for people to mill around. I could be wrong on that but from what I've seen in the pictures it doesn't look like there will be lots of room.

Oh well hope the people that can go have a blast and post pictures to here.

I don't think we will go

I can't see spending the money, the August in Orlando heat, and that they are limiting the numbers so much that it almost doesn't seem fair that us West Coast people go. I haven't been to Fantasia Gardens but I had already decided that it was going to depend on where they have it. Maybe if when they describe it it sounds tempting I will change my mind.

I do hope someone will a link to pictures.

I am sad

For those who do go the Swan and/or Dolphin are nearby and have GREAT rates for nurses and teachers. Check out

http://www.mousesavers.com/wdw.html

but I would imagine Disney will be offering a discount for toons at one of their resorts. That could be a way to carry the fun a little further too!

We won't be hitting Orlando until 2 days after toonfest.

They really could have released the date and location sooner. We've had our trip planned for a few months.

My husband did say we could change our reservations and he'd rearrange his work schedule so we could leave sooner. I thought that was a bit more than we needed to do for a game that only I play so I told him no problem.

Good news for UK people who want to go

I've just received this email from a member of Disney via the Toontown.com website about UK residents who might want to go to Toonfest ....

Quote:
Dear Toontown Guest,

As long as you have a passport, plane ticket, and get there early. There is a limit of 750 guests for Toon Fest. It will be held at Disney's Fantasia Gardens, Walt Disney Resort in Buena Vista, FL. Tickets will go on sale July 11th for $10 per guest. We look forward to seeing you!

Thank You,

Ryan

California time is now twenty minutes past midnight and the homepage doesn't show any new details. I'm watching it like a hawk!! But I'm guessing now that it won't change until normal "office hours" - because they didn't update it at midnight, it suggests they won't until maybe 7am or 8am their time at the earliest. BUT THIS IS JUST A GUESS.
