December 14, 2003 [sv1.0.9.9.test]

December 14, 2003 [sv1.0.9.9.test]
The factory gray-screen-on-first-door bug is fixed.
Doors are allowed more time play the open/close sounds and animation.
Fixed incorrect assignment of experience after a battle.
Fixed lack of suits on Oak Street.
Added experience multipliers for the two rounds of battles with the Senior V.P.'s minions, similar to the floor multiplier in buildings. The first round of Cogs gives double experience; the second round (the skeleton Cogs) gives triple experience.
Getting hit in factories will no longer undo just-for-fun effects.
Fixed a few more crashes throughout the game.
Fixed corner in Daisy playground near tunnel to Maple Street where Toons could get out of the world.
Fixed collisions on the bridge in the Toontown Central playground.
New revisions of many Cog HQ sound effects.
New door open and close sound effects in Cog HQ, and Factory music.
Fixed texture edge problem (clamping) on winter holiday trees.
Fixed collision gap allowing Toons to get through "under-construction".
Holiday lights are scheduled to go on and off a few times Sunday for testing.

It says I have a new cattlelog and something in my mailbox... but when I try to go home (either via the cattlelog button or my schticker book) the game essentially crashes... I'm not allowed to go home and get stuck in an infinite loop.

Just FYI.

Yes I did report it. Twice now.

BTW this is a good example of why Test really isn't the land of wonder and promise that some people seem to think it is. ^_^

I wouldn't usually respond to this but I am reading it more and more lately. But there is a reason they call this "TEST". It is so they can "TEST" the new developements in a real play situation. It is a process that allows them to add new things to ToonTown without spending months and months of testing by just the few who develop it. So please stop the whining about how things don't work right all the time.... that is why you are here.. to test it out and report the bugs. Yes, it is a little annoying to be up in a building or in HQ battle and the whole thing crashes, but if we report all the bugs then they can pinpoint what happened so it can get to open without those bugs.

Excellent post Sir Lancelot. Just filed 2 bug reports myself since update. Seems a server reset will happen everytime you go into the factory now. Not posting this to whin, but to let others know it has happened to us 3 times in a row.

Now get back on that soap box son and continue...

Excuse me. Mentioning exisiting bugs is NOT whining in my book, and pointing out that playing on a Test Server involves running into a lot of bugs and reporting them is also NOT whining. And you'll notice that I did report it first, I just thought it would be a good thing to mention.

There have been a lot of people here who want very much to be on the Test Server, and I just wanted to point out what being on a Test Server usually entails.

Believe me, I know. I played on the Everquest Test Sever for more than three years, and I endured all manner of nasty bugs, rollbacks, sudden server chrashes or unannounced shutdowns, and the infamous item deletion which was nearly a complete character wipe. These things, the wipe especially, drove a lot of my friends away from Test and to the production servers... to me that just showed that they weren't really as interested in testing the game as they claimed to be. I stayed, and I reported problems as I encountered them. So I like to think I know what playing on a Test Server means, and why I'm there.

Am I supposed to only talk about bugs and problems to the developers themselves, and nobody else? Should I tell everyone here that Test is a perfect game environment? This is a forum to discuss the game, and that includes the Test Server, and a large part of the Test Server involves finding and solving problems that exist in the code.

And how boring would the site be if nobody posted anything?

My purpose in occasionally mentioning bugs here is to let other Test toons know about them so they can A) Test them B) Avoid them or C) Confirm whether it's a universal bug that occurs to everyone or something weird that only happened to me and can't be repeated. If you have a reason why this forum shouldn't be used to talk about bugs on Test and maybe help us understand them better then I'd like to know what that is. It makes perfect sense to me to use this forum in figuring out what works and what doesn't... it simply helps me test the game better.

And even if I want to whine about the bugs on Test, is that not my right? If I report them first then I'm doing my job aren't I? (Whether anyone cares to read it is beside the point. ^_^ ) If I decide to whine, and it annoys you, then your best choice is to not read my posts. Assuming I'm obeying the rules of the board, telling me what I can and can't post about is essentially futile, I'm sorry to say. ^_^ Although I do admit you're free to complain about my whining every time you percieve that I'm whining, if you feel you must. ^_^

Not that I was whining here. If I do whine it will be a lot more obvious. ^_^

To be honest I got a letter from someone at Disney earlier today saying they were sorry that my gameplay had been hindered by a bug that I'd reported. I got the impression that they didn't really understand that I was simply playing on Test and reporting anything I found that wasn't working right, so I wrote back to explain. I'm not on Test to enjoy an error-free gaming environment, so my gameplay wasn't ruined. I just wanted to make sure someone understood that a major bug was involved and it needed to be fixed before it was passed on to the Open servers, or a lot of people's gameplay WOULD have been ruined. And happily they claim to have fixed that problem.

BTW I tried to teleport to my house from a street and although I wasn't able to go there I didn't encounter the same stuck-in-a-loop bug. But it still happens when I teleport from a playground. Either way you can't go home though.

If you consider that whining, then I'm sorry to bother you. Please put me on ignore so you don't have to read any more of my posts... because I will post again.

Yikes Jalia, I think you and Sir Lancelot are actually on the
same page... Lancelot there have been many kiddies clammering
to play on TEST to see Cog HQ. I think that's who Jalia was
talking about (correct me I'm wrong Jalia ).

On a side note: we've been told CogHQ is for the advanced
player. This is definitely true when going against the Veep.
However, Disney now adds experience multipliers? Toons going
against the Veep are least likely to need experience points, nor
SOS cards for that matter. Do you know what that means when it
hits Open? What do you do if you want to encourage an activity?
Provide incentive. Disney is potentially fueling massive grief by
providing rewards that would only benefit Low/Midbie toons.

Ah, well. It's still fun for now. I wonder how fun it will be in Open
when only 2 out of 8 toons in a final battle group are over 90
laffs, lol.

Jalia, you are right. I just wanted to point out that the Test Town Territory forum might be a better place for talking about bugs and such. I do understand that this thread had to do with the latest news on the latest update on Test, so that was appropriate.

Semi changing thread subject...

I don't want them to work any weekends to make this go faster, they deserve a life, but there's probably more that I'm missing.

Anyways, back to your reguarally(sp) scheduled thread.

I am a bit worried beacuse the cog suits won't move as well so it will be hard to get rid of them. All I will try to do I know if a unkown noob wants me to help him fight, I wouldn't because 1.) If he gets his cogs suit he will present alot of trouble for the more experinced players 2.) He shouldn't be in Cog HQ in first place.

Some people might think this is cruel but it isn't it is more cruel for us more experinced players. We had to do all this work to get up that point but they just walk right in and ask for help. Sure If a noob wants tour thats okay, but to ask for a fight with the V.P. thats crazy. In the test sever though, you have an advantage, over open in that since you have more experinced players that know there limitations. I hope all noobs reading this will understand this.

experience multiplier

I was thinking that the LACK of the multiplier was intended. As in, a toon that is still working on levelling up their gags would realize that CHQ isn't the place to do that.

Hmm..
