NPC - non-player character
Basically it is a term to describe program interaction with people playing the game and the program looks like a character. In this case, it's the shopkeepers from toon town answering a distress (SOS) call for help. NPC's are usually either neutral or friendly to your objectives (in this case friendly). Cogs are not NPCs. Have fun in toon town, ...Bear

Thanks! But another question.
I have every gag track exept for Trap. Does this mean I can't use the SOS Trap Door? Sure hope I can still use that SOS.

The Shopkeepers help in the way that they can, they each do one thing and they do it very well. And they will do it only once for each time you SOS. They also do some things we can't.
It's not a requirement that you have the trap door (or even access to the trap gag track) for Clerk Clara to come in an lay down traps on the cogs (she brings her own gags, she doesn't use yours). We can't do rapid fire drop (like Bessie, ooooo) or use a lure that never misses (like Lil Old Man), and we certainly can't restock gags in the middle of a building. SOS is alot of fun, but I do not want to change the requirement in the game for cooperation (we need each other to complete our tasks). This is a poor substitute for unending variety of toons' combining our individual capabilities to attempt to reach a successful outcome. There is much this game can teach you, and you'll never learn it if you complete every task using SOS. Have fun in Toon Town, ...Bear
