Changes to Toontown Central Usergroups

Edit: Since new users cannot use Private Messaging until they get upgraded to Full Members, We can be contacted via email at contactus@toontowncentral.com . Please only use that only if you can't PM.

I've started to change over the way that users here are placed in groups, which will affect the privileges the have here.

All current Registered users are now in the Full Member group. Full Members have the same privileges as Registered used to.

When someone signs up now, they become Registered when they answer the email confirmation to activate their account. With so many new members, that can cause a security problem, since young kids can easily get access to non-monitored functions here, like Personal Messaging.

I have now changed the permissions to Registered members so that they do NOT have access to Personal Messaging. They CAN post to most forums at this time, except for the News and Polls.

On a regular basis, one of the admins here will check the Registered users, and move them to Full Members, as appropriate.

I'll also be doing a big clean-up on people who have not shown as having been using this site for a while, and those who have not answered the registration email. If, for some reason, you have been using this site but have not answered the registration email, do it now.

Thank you for your support. Would you like fries with that? Please drive through...

Is there an indication in someone's profile that will tell us if they are Registered or Full?

I guess if they are only Registered, we won't have the option to PM them.

Sounds like a lot of work for you guys, but probably necessary at this point. What criteria will you use to decide to grant Full Membership to the "new" registered members? Just curious.

Maybe this will cut down on some "stuff."

Sounds good...
The only thing I'm wondering about it why are you pruning your members? A good chunk of people will be removed who only read, as a large number of people will read and not post at sites like this....
brings your membership numbers down too hehe.

I would think twice about removing 'non active' members....
otherwise sounds really good to me.

IIRC, when we converted form the old site, they also did a pruning of members. They had transferred the members from the old site, some of whom weren't active, and also some of the old members had signed up for new accounts here.

I think a gentle pruning of members is probably good, even if it decreases the membership total, it can eliminate duplicate and "fake" accounts. But as Sally Kat says, I wouldn't delete "non-active" accounts either. Perhaps they just don't have anything to say yet.

Most of the names to be pruned have not logged on for a very long time and have never made any posts. Many were moved here when the new site was created and have never logged on. I believe KB will only be pruning those that have never visited here so those that log in just to read will remain.

Question ... what are the criteria the admins will be using to move Registered users to Full members as appropriate? We became Registered users when we activated the account as stated in the email we rec'd after joining. There is nothing about what a Full member status is as it wasn't in existence when we did register. Just wondering, as a couple others are, where do we find the info on our status?
My opinion is that cleaning up the dB of non-active members is a good idea since most who ppl who never log in after signing up - 1.Either never came back or 2.Made an account, forgot their password (i've seen many dont bother to send for a new password, etc) and just create a new acct and will never use the old acct again. We are tracked by our log ins which is the criteria they'll use to purge the system of non-active accts.
Oh ... and thank you ... but I'd really enjoy a strawberry-banana smoothie at the time please
Thanks!
Margo
