I am thinking of getting a Mac Pro and dad cant afford the price of the mac pro i want ($20,000) or the basic one ($5,000).

I saw some Apple refrubished Mac Pro's for the same price as a Imac.

Has anyone purchased a refurbished mac before?

If so did it work like new? Or was it a piece of junk that spent more time at the repair center then it spent at your place?

I am thinking of spending around $3,000 on the mac. Possibly another $1,000 on upgrades (Boost the ram from 1 or 2 gigs to like 12)

If it is directly from Apple Inc. I would think it would be ok.

If it's from a apple reseller I probably would not buy.

I currently have a iMac but I currently can't afford the same kind of computer you want at the moment because I am using it on filmmaking items. Las time I checked the cheapest mac pro was 2,700. I need to check on that.

For your issue I can promise you that they will not be junk. I have a few friends that have refurbished macs and they run smoothly. If you have a problem you can return it and you can swap it in for another one.

Ok, thanks everyone for the quick replies.

Edit: Does anyone have 2+ Video cards in their pc?

I was seeing if it was worth it to get the 4x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB . Would the Mac be able to use all 4 cards while doing something like Toontown? Or would it only use one?

Are you serious $20,000?
I wouldn't buy a computer at that price.
I've seen cars less than that...

Also I would say don't buy a refurbished computer buy a brand new one.
Buy a refurbished might seem good but look at it it's old and you'll never know how good it really is until you use it.
But hey don't try to get involved with something that involves a lot of .
If you must buy a refurbished computer than that's probably the best bet you have.

Two plus video cards...hmm...
I don't think so.

Off topic: If you want more memory for your computer you can buy things that hook up to your computer so it can hold a lot and enough to keep toontown in good shape. There are slots somewhere I forget but you just insert somethings. There are 3 slots per a computer I think. I'm looking into getting more memory for my computer so I can run two accounts at the same time. I can already do that but if I get more memory i'll have no problem.

I'm sure with a good computer 4 cards could be enough for toontown.
I'm not very computer savvy but i'd say four would be good.

Well, It is for large businesses, and it is very complex, loaded with features, and will last years.
I still have a Mac from 1991.

Sorry, got a little off topic.

I have purchased a 1996 refurbished PowerBook, in 2001, because it was so cheap, and it was the prototype for the MacBooks now. I still use it from time to time, and it works like a charm.

I would definitely recommend getting a refurbished Mac Pro.

Right now, I use a MacBook, and I love it, I would suggest it, but I don't know what you are getting it for. If you are getting it for personal home use only, I would get the iMac.

Yea i am using it for home use. But the Mac Pro and Imac are around the same price, but the Mac Pro can last longer, due to the processor, ram, hard drive, and video card is easily upgraded.

Yeah, the Mac Pro is very versatile, whether you want it for gaming, editing videos, or doing whatever. It also holds about ten times as much memory as others, which is really good for family use; room for everyones pictures, and documents.

If i were to get one with 2-4 Video cards, Do you know if the Mac be able to use all 4 cards while doing something like Toontown? Or would it only use one?

And I would probally have 1 30-inch Mac screen hooked up to the first dvi port in 1 video card.

Ill have to check on that one.

EDIT: I checked, and from what I see, the multiple card slots are for multiple displays. So I think that only one would be used on each display, wich might be wrong, but that is what it appeared to be.
