how much RAM?
my laptop is, Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2600 @ 2.16 ghz,(intel centrino duo) 2 gigs of ram (thats 2045.5 mb of ram) Nvidia GeForce GO 7600 256mb, i am running Vista Ultimate (got it for $60), i would reccomend getting a Mac, just because i have always wanted one and have seen videos and the quality of the Mac computer are better then a Windows computer Vista is pretty good, but it does try to protect you from yourself alot http://www.winsupersite.com/vista/ would be a good place to see info about Vista (thanks Tiger for the link) yet i do find Vista like a nagging mother (mom, if you saw that then i wasnt talking about you) "Do you want to download this?" "Are you sure?" "You positive, you do know there are risks to downloading things?" (you continune clicking Yes), "Fine dont say i didnt warn you". |

personally, I would choose vista. I don't have it at the moment but I will be getting it soon. I actually asked my dad for the mac but he said that vista is better (when i asked why he gave me a very intelectual answer that went in one ear and out the other--sorry).
but yea i'd go with vista |

Well, I would personally chose Mac OS X. First of all, NO VIRUSES. You don't have to spend $40 a year on some stupid AntiVirus program like Norton. Even if sypware tried to install on a Mac, you have to enter a password to install most things, so it would ask you for your password, and if you weren't installing anything, you would know something is up, and just cancel the spyware out. ^^ Second, most of Vista's features are like copys of Mac features. Take Instant Search, that is basically a copy of Finder or Spotlight. Basic File Back Up and Restore is just a copy of Time Machine on OS X Leopard. Say you have something deleted and you did it on accident and you wanted it back. You don't have to set up some horrible back up disk, just enter the date on the Time Machine and it will go BACK! Sure, you're thinking, I LOVE AERO! Did you know that Apple already had an Aero like program called Aqua? Aqua is on every Mac OS X Version! So, why have the hassle with Vista, which uses up a lot of RAM and it delays Toontown. GET A MAC!!

You can always go into User Accounts, and turn off "User Account Control" to get rid of the incessant nagging. Quote:
I'm sure there will be a way around even the UNIX-like security in MacOSX for ****ware to get in. Simply don't browse web sites that are pop-up galleries. That "Time Machine" rollback feature must really eat up the hard drive after a lot of time. I can understand the usefulness of it, but I turn off System Restore in Windows to save gigabytes of disk space, so I would probably do the same on OSX, if I could. I'm well aware of Apple's leading the world in GUI design, they always have. However, I like the Windows-like buttons interface, as opposed to OSX, which if you combine Windows and Linux/UNIX/whateverIX, OSX is the odd number with it's different button configuration. I'm just glad OSX has right-click. That was a sorely missing feature on the Classic MacOS. When I installed it on my Pentium 4 "GIGABYTE", first thing I did was put my mouse on an empty part of the desktop, and right-click, at which a menu popped up, a beam of light shone down from the ceiling and a nun chorus went "LA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A!" Just make sure you have an ATi Graphics Card, not an nVidia.Personally, I will stick with XP, because I got Vista Business X86 from School, and ditto on everyday use. Within a week, it becomes a slow, grounding resource monster that takes ten years to load up anything. And that's after a defrag. For gaming, I decided to pop Windows 2000 on another hard disk and transfer all my games onto it. Windows 2000 uses 120 MB of RAM, so I have very little overhead and compatibility with almost every game out there! |

I have a Mac and I use Boot Camp. The difference (for the OP) is that with Parallels you have Windows running in a separate window on your Mac screen, which is very convenient. However, if you ever want to run a PC game like Pirates of the Caribbean Online or anything that uses 3-D rendering, you can't currently do that with Parallels. With Boot Camp, you have a whole separate partition of your drive that is dedicated to Windows. (I use XP because I wasn't crazy about Vista.) It's a little less convenient because when you want to switch to a different OS, you have to restart your machine. But it works extremely well and I play all kinds of games on the Windows side. So I would say Mac only because it's like you get two computers for the price of one. |
