Doodle Lag ???????

Are Doodles the 5th type of cog. I have been tortured since the Doodles were released. I lag out so bad in the pie fight. I have reduced my promos to almost zero. If I cant be an assett than I would rather not be there. I do have an idea I would like to try. I think Doodles may be manufactured in cog HQ to prevent us for beating the VeeP. My wife and I are returning our doodles in an attempt to test this theory.
I would like to set up a Sunday CCG raid on the VeeP at an unscheduled time. If you would like to help in this endeavor please read on. I am looking for 6 toons to help us. The only requirement is that you have NO doodles on your estate at the time of the raid. This includes all toons on your account. A doodle free environment is essential to test this theory.
My belief is that when you have doodles they must constantly be monitored by the toontown program on your computer. This activity must also be monitored by the toontown servers. Doodles are constantly moving around and must be a drain on resources. If all 8 toons had a doodle than 16 things must be tracked instead of 8. Please help me test this theory.
If I can assemble a doodle free group I would like to run Sunday 11-07-04 at 5:00 eastern. If you have had lag problems I encourage you to help. Again please make sure your entire account is doodle free. Please post in this thread if you are interested in joining us. We must expose these doodles as the cogs that they are. Take off that cute fur coat and show your true colors. COG GREY!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I could help ya out, Waldo but my son will be really upset if I delete the doodles he bought for 2 of my toons. That's all I will allow on my estate... I mean I go home to ck my new catalogs and what do I see? Hungry or angry doodles. Which brings me to my point...

I have 2 doodles on open and have had not had too much of a problem with lag lately in vp. When they first came out, it was awful. The weird thing is... on test svr, my kid bought 6 doodles and I didn't lag for vp on test at all with 6 doodles at the estate. (Only have done one vp since he bought all those silly things on test). I'm really interested to see what you find out and hope you all post here to let us know your outcome.

Other than when my PC tanks (something new since doodles) I've not seen lag in the VP and I have 0 doodles.

Computers

As most people know I had horrible lag ever since the doodles came out. I went from at least a couple of VP's a week to zero for months. I really do think you have it correct that the doodles are using a lot of extra memory for TT now. I had a 1.5 ghz with 512 memory with a TNT 64 and I would freeze up the entire pie throw as soon as I went to through my first pie. We only have 1 doodle on this account (the account that I use for Silly Lily) and a ton of doodles on our other account. Like you, I wasn't of any help to the Cold Callers so I haven't been on a raid forever. I really miss all of you too!!

My good news though is I have tested this out on VP since. Yeah, finally HW28 since I didn't think I would ever get to VP again. I had to test this out with SF's because I didn't want anyone thinking I was leeching for my HW50. I really think the key here is unfortunately is processor speed and video. I built our new computer which is now 3.0 ghz with HT technology and 512 but only the video chip on the board for now which seems to be running like a charm (Extreme Graphics 2...this is an Intel Motherboard).

If you still need this theory worked and don't have enough people to go I can delete that one doodle and try VP on the old computer and see if that does the trick. Yes, Disney has put a lot into TT (I'd still like to see a new HQ in my toons lifetime..I know dream on) but they really should not expect everyone to have to run out and buy a new computer to play it. That 1.5 ghz should have been plenty to run TT and it was until the doodles came along. Okay sorry you guys for talking so much As soon as I finish up my 5000 merits for Silly I will join a raid. Missing all the fun with all the CCG.

Count Me In...

...That is...if I can get Trixie or Lola ready in time. I have NO doodles. I had one for each of my three toons but turned them in several weeks ago---I have enough hungry/lonely/bored/angry pets in real life, I don't need them chasing me around on TT too!

I agree that doodles take up a lot of resources, and the lag has been bad ever since they came out...or at about that time. It does seem suspicious. And I agree you shouldn't have to have a super-duper-mega-computer to run TT--mine is only a year old and has all the bells and whistles and plenty of resources, and I still have lag periodically. I haven't had as much trouble with lag in VP since I turned in my doodles...maybe it's a coincidence, maybe not.

Hope I have a toon ready to go with you, Waldo. It would be a fun VP anyway, test or no!

Did anyone with lag problems check their memory available while playing toontown? Hit control, alt, del and click on the performance tab and check the available physical memory number. If its too low your pc will lag. 512 should be fine unless there's alot of other things using the resources, maybe even spyware, ect.. 256mb total system memory is definately not enough and I have had a lag effect when I played on a pc with 256MB of memory. I really don't think that having doodles would effect performance, but every upgrade they do could use more system resources. Its possible the doodle update increased the use of system memory. As far as doodles moving around I don't think there's any data going through your internet connection unless your on your estate. Also the PC I have with a 64MB video card gives a lagging effect, but some of the better 64mb cards would probably be fine.

I knew those Doodles were evil!

I always thought the Doodles were just another evil trick thought up by the cogs! Something for us to waste our precious toon time on, so we weren't out killing them. Or, is this just Waldo's excuse to explain why all his toons haven't hit HW 50 yet?? Naaaaa.

I'm going to go shoot all my kid's doodles now. I'll let YOU explain to them why their precious pets are now in Doodle heaven!

Do your experiment next weekend or at 7 Pacific time and I'm there.

YOU ROCK WALDO!

From Disney

Here is an excerpt from a reply to a bug that I submitted to Disney regarding the issue of lag and doodles:

Quote:
Dear Toontown Guest,

Thank you for the recent bug report.

We appreciate your feedback and concerns.

Doodles are not that server intensive. They require very little
processing power, unless you are at your estate. The way it works is
that your account includes information on how long it has been since
you've seen your Doodle so it appears that they have missed you. When
you are in the streets battling Cogs the Doodles are inactive.
I'm not believing that for one second, as there was virtually no lag prior to the release of the doodles!!

No More Promos

My wife and I will stop going to promo because of our lag problems. I sure would like to find a solution. Both my primary machines are P-4 2.0gig proc. They both have 512 mb ram and 128 mb radeon 9000 cards. These are CLEAN machines. How do you guys that run 2 accts together handle your network traffic? I use ICS and am curious if packet handling could be problematic. Wish I had a GOOD router to test. I bought a cheap router but had discos from toontown when 2 accts were on together. Back to ICS now. Any input would be appreciated.

My internet connection is through a satellite which is notorious for lag.
I have trouble getting into elevator, opening doors and stepping on buttons.
anything the requires quick upload/download exchange of information.

However, I don't seem to have a problem in the VP. I can see the jumps.
I can see my pies.

I have a doodle though and have spent too many beans training the little rascal to get rid of him.

My daughter and I have accounts through a wireless lan. We have lag, but the lag we experince is common to our type of internet, satellite.
