Taking a big deep breath

Hi CCG

Please forgive me if I am not so eloquent with my words, but this is pure frustration talking here.

I have been working on getting my cashsuit for a few months now and cannot get the tasks done. I see my sf who have started around the same time as I and they are all well over 100+ toons now. They have all been in Cash HQ and Law HQ. I don't know what I am doing that is different than them as I have been on TT for hours at a time, days in a row, months at a time. I am very frustrated with the game. This can't be good as what kind of example does this set for my kids if their mom is upset by a child's game???

I am taking a step away from the computer and I'm closing the door to my den. I've got to set some priorities here and take a big deep breath.

I do want to give Capt Butch (and Fly Swatter) a BIG thank you for yesterday. You stopped what you were doing to help me out and you are a really great friend. Thank you so much!

Tracy

Simbacat,

You know what? I am exactly the same way. My preteen daughter has to remind me that "it's only a game, mom." I have been working very hard as well and see my sf's way ahead of me and pulling away. I can never seem to get accomplished what I want to, what I think I *should be* accomplishing. My husband told me recently if I didn't cool it he was going to make sure I had an enforced TT holiday.

What it comes down to, for me, is that I'm a "helper" toon. I have a bunch of much smaller laff toons as friends (not sf's) and I get as much satisfaction from helping them get suit parts, get better gags, get laff points, finish toon tasks, etc. as I do from accomplishing the same thing on my own toon. But in being a "helper" toon, I don't get nearly as much done on my own toon. Like the other day, I was helping two smaller toons run coin mints. One could only do the coin mint, so that's where we stayed. I needed tons of bucks, and got next to none from the coin mints, but my smaller friends had a blast and learned lots of tricks for getting through the mints. It's hard for me to see all my sf's doing so much more on their toons than I get accomplished on mine, but when I think back on what I *have* done-- helping out all the smaller laff friends I've got-- it doesn't seem as bad. And I do have to say, one of the smaller laff toons I befriended ended up being a sf-- the small laff toon is actually his 3rd toon, and not only is he an awesome player, but he has become one of my best friends. So I always remind my daughter to be nice to the smaller laffs, because you never know who you will meet....

I hope after you take a breather you will come back to TT again. I'm not sure which toon you have, but you can be sure if I see you I'll be glad to help out!

What toontask are you working on?

Seriously, cash suit pieces require tons of cogs, and tons of buildings. If you are trying to work in River, it will take forever especially alone. Having a couple friends working the same tasks helps. Don't get discouraged so soon, DDL stinks worse than LOM in my opinion. My toons still do buildings in quiet districts, send me a pm and let me know if I can help.

I have to agree with Lady Fluffy here. My toons have been very, very slow to get things accomplished because I get so much enjoyment out of helping my friends. So I guess for me it's about what I want out of the game, and if I decide I want maxxing more than helping friends, well, I think my friends will help me in turn. I couldn't have accomplished anything without my friends anyway, and I think that's my secret. We help each other get into River so we can get bux, merits, jns much more quickly, and its usually easy to round up somebody for mints, factories, and DAs. We would be glad to help you also--just PM me a code if you have room and we'll get you going! I'm sure others in the CCG will be glad to help also.

Me too! It took ages, because when someone asked for help I always said yes. I don't regret it -- some of the toons I worked with are still friends and we get together when online for a building or two. One of the reasons I didn't progress, is I couldn't play hours each day.

I am now in a position to just help others, as I am not "driven" enough to want to max. Consider posting a message on Toons to the Rescue, as there are always folks willing to help out.

I have room on my friends list, PM me and we can swap codes. I have time to play next week, especially evenings.

LOM, DDL, training drop, training trap, and Soundlessness are some of the hardest parts of the game. Put them together and a break is understandable. If you need help with the cash tasks, give me a call!

Thank you everyone for your responses! So much of what was said holds true for me. If I am on my way trying to get something done and I see any toon standing in front of a building, I just can't turn down a "Psssst", "Can you help me?" (especially those monkeys, I find that their eyes are so sad looking).

I'll be sending you guys a code but I insist on reciprocating the help. You are all so kind to offer the help. All I need is a simple 5 storey Bossbot Building. I won't be able to be on as much as I used to be in the past as RL demands more of my time right now. But I look forward to seeing you on TT!

Sorry for the complaining guys, I was frustated. I just needed a good 24 hr break. All toons have to get the same things done eventually anyway, right?

Live, Love, Laugh, Play Toontown!

Glad you are feeling better, Tracy! Sometimes just a break from TT really helps. Also, to let you know, my first toon took forever to get through DDL. Many of your friends might be second (or more toons). Your next toons will not take nearly as long to complete. You will have a better idea of which tasks to take, and also which gag tracks to choose and when. Hedwig got as far as I wanted her very quickly bc I have a second account to use. Always helps to have a big toon helping not only with those tasks but with gag training. Yell if ya see me online, I'd be happy to help you with that building!

If I may add - the real key to making DDL tasks as painless as possible is trying desparately to do them in some order that makes sense....so that you aren't trying to do 5 story boss bot buildings, 10 skelecogs in the mint, 100 sellbots and 20 Legal Eagles or something all at once...so that you are never getting credit for more than one task at a time (e.g. I'm currently working 4 DDL tasks at once in DDL - every 5 story building I do (of any kind) will get me credit on four tasks at one time).....

Under the tips, tricks and tactics area above there is a thread that lists all the DDL tasks. figure out which ones you want to do togehter, then shop for those (by shopping, I mean hop from PG to PG and try all the shop keepers....they do offer different tasks.

Meanwhile, if you have to choose from various shopkeeper tasks (versus from a play ground), carefully select those that go together.

Also, if you are standing outside a building with someone - ask them their tasks - if they have one or two congruent with yours - try to become their friend - having someone else looking for the same building you are will greatly reduce your time to completion..

Finally, and this is just my opinion, NEVER take a "for fun" task - it limits your choices of other tasks (because you only have 3 spaces left to fill) - and if you have chosen a really awful one (kill 100 moneybags to become invisible, etc.) - you will HAVE to finish that one before you get your last task (to gain access to your law suit).

There is nothing worse than having to finish a "for fun" task that you took not knowing that you wouldn't get your last task until you had completed that one!

Hope that helps - it was learned from very, very bad choices on my first toon - I thought you had to finish all the "for fun" tasks (all of them) before you could get your final task...ouch....

Later-
Craig

Craig, excellent advice! I think most of our first toons took a long time bc we were learning this strategy. LRB took 120 12+ cogs to become, I think invisible, at the end of DDL. ROFL! (And I had not found the ccg at that point so I wasn't doing many boss battles... can you imagine how long THAT task took! LOL!). I learned on that toon to not take specific cogs for tasks, too. Don't take say 100 loan sharks unless you plan on doing a ton of mints at the same time. After LRB I shopped around and usually took just basic cog numbers for tasks. I think we all have stories about horrendous toontasks that we took at some time or another (or that our children took for us - ugh!). lol

I decided a long time ago that I would only have two TT accounts (which I already have), so I know eventually I will not have room for any more toons. I used to be able to play a lot more then I do now, but as my kids have gotten older (we homeschool) and become more involved in outside activities, I have very little time to play anymore...mostly mornings and an occasional afternoon fishing/golfing session. Anytime I get frustrated that I can't play TT much and my toons are stuck in their various tasks, I remember that someday I will reach a dead end with this game and have to either stop playing or start deleting toons. I don't look forward to doing either, so I try to live in the moment and not feel rushed into finishing my toons. It's really hard to see all my friends passing me up with toons that were started way before mine, but I tell myself that I can still chat with them and that at this point in my life, my kids are more important to me then this game. I play TT for fun and relaxation doggone it! lol

Right now I am trying to max Queen (she needs fishing, golfing and racing) before Boss HQ comes out, get 5500 merits on my first sell uber (my poor neglected Pup), finish maxing gags on my other sell uber and someday get a CFO in on my cash uber. Instead of feeling obligated to do anything, I try to decide in the morning what I want to do. Since I have learned how to play both accounts at the same time, I can now take two two toons to do things which has really helped me out a lot. Before that I was getting really frustrated because most of my friends play much later in the day then I do and since all but one of my toons are ubers, I need an extra toon to help out. It will still be a long time before I "finish" all these tasks...if I ever do!

Well, not sure if this helped any, but at the very least you know you are not alone in your frustrations!

Hmm It seems you need to play Toontown with Chester. My motto is "Annoy me and I'll find a way to make you go sad...or just annoy you till you go sad." . It's kinda long, but I can't seem to make it shorter. That'll get rid of your "can't turn down a pssst" problem though!

Oooo, oooo (waving my hand in the air)-- my horrendous task was 400 2+ story buildings. I was trying to max my last 2 gag tracks and helping a lot of my smaller laff friends do buildings, so I thought, yeah, how long will 400 buildings take? HA! I got the spinning gold star TWICE trying to finish that stupid task, LOL!! DON'T take the 400 2+ story buildings task!!!!
