Question Training Runs

Are there going to be any CFO and/or CJ training runs scheduled in the next month or so?

I have not attempted either as yet and am hesitant to do so for fear that I will be the cause of an entire groups demise. Plus, even if I am the only toon that goes sad, it is hard to learn what works best and what you SHOULD be doing to help the team as a whole when you are just trying to survive.

I would much rather go with toons that know that they are taking a rookie under their wing (or paw, hoof, or foot) and are willing to be patient and do some coaching. Everyone knows what to expect going in that way. I do not mind going sad as I learn but do not enjoy taking others with me unnecessarily. Just help and advise as much as you can while keeping yourself alive. I am sure that there are others who would be interested in such a mentoring program.

And I believe it would be a "win/win" situation since we rookies would learn faster while you more experienced toons would face less frustration when running with us and our inevitable mistakes.

I have studied the guides for each headquarters extensively and am not asking for a free ride. I think anyone seeking help should do their part to understand and prepare prior to accepting that help. But reading about something and actually being there and doing it are hardly the same thing. I am also not helpless. 112 laff with maxxed gags across the board (no trap) and a full slate of SOS's available.

The CCG has been instrumental in my progression through battling the VP. Unfortunately I had to do randoms, deal with the incredibly aggravating shuffle and be left as road kill before discovering what the CCG has to offer. I now expect to defeat the VP every time I enter that elevator, regardless of who gets on with me. And I have learned that there is a certain satisfaction in helping those with less experience as I now regularly lead low laffers through the factory to get their suit parts while I earn merits.

So I know that all I have to do to go on a CFO or CJ run is to show up and other CCG members will hop on that elevator with me. But I think a training program that is known as such would be more fair and appealing to everyone involved. Is there any interest out there for something like this? I have seen this idea mentioned on other posts but have not seen anything recent. Thanks for reading this and for any responses it generates. Either pro or con.

Go to the boss battles in Nutty River, that will get you all the training you need.

If you dance in the River with randoms, you can dance anywhere.

Now, run along.

Seriously, though. I have done the CFO with randoms with moderate success. I agree, no fun. Try the CFO with the CCG -- the first time I went with the CCG I was amazed at how well it went. I was still scared, but got through. I just had my first sucessful CJ -- with the CCG, of course. The experienced toons helped me out and we danced! I had failed many times before. You might consider some of their early bird runs as they are less crowded.

But ... if any pros out there would offer training runs, I would love to learn how to crane!

We should be about due for another training run about now. They usually pop up about once a month.

Ignore Crab E. Dawg. He's just mad because we wouldn't let him come along on our last CJ Training Run.

Looking forwards to attending the training run if I can.

And the dawg don't bother me none. I have been known to elevate sarcasm to an art form and am more than capable of fending off a lil nipper!

We are looking to put some training runs together.

Give us a few minutes (read days) to figure it out.

Keep watch, the next training run will be here before you know it.

Yes, go on a training run, but;

it really is okay to simply turn up on any scheduled (or unscheduled) CCG run. Unless you're really unlucky you will always have a few seasoned pros willing to offer advice. The secret is to 'make sure the others know that you're new' by using appropriate phrases such as:

'Can you help me?'
'I need practice . . . . .'
'Which Way?'
'Help!'
'Sorry I can't'

Then, 'listen to any advice that you're given', or simply step back and watch.

Best of luck!

There are always experienced players at every run. I would say to you just join in, and when in doubt, watch the toons around you.

Above all, ask questions if you do not understand something. There is usually a good reason that you see toons doing what they are doing. General tips are:

In the cfo, pick a place and stay put. You land near a crane with another toon. If you are not going to crane, dont run off, stay near that crane and keep the goons stomped. Above all, most runs that go bad are from toons not staying near their craner, causing the goons to swarm an area and chaos to follow.
But, don't let that opprotunity pass either. Watch what the craners do, how they get the safes lined up, and get a general idea of what to do or what could be helpful to you when craning.

For the CJ, even I am still learning how to do better. A few things I have learned that help would be:

When shooting jurors, the longer you wait to start, the better off you are. Until recently, I didnt realize you got 12 shots only. With cogs taking over constantly, you have to redo the work. It seems any toon landed after 25 seconds left tends to not be replaced, while those seated before get taken over just at the last seconds.

A new thing I am working on is timing in the CJ. All cogs throw evidence at the same time, and in the same rhythms. A position facing the cogs in some what will let you watch their actions and better time your jumps to avoid the thrown evidence.

Dont let the CJ scare you! Understand, the larger the suits on the elevator, the more difficult the battle will be. Take a moment after starting the evidence round to look around. There may be gavels in places you aren't used to seeing gavels, and there could be cogs in front of the CJ and the Elevator that are not always there. If this is the case, get to the evidence stand, and watch the gavels. There are several 'safe' places to stand but you need to look for them. When in doubt, get close to another toon. Chances are, its a safer place to stand.

Does anyone else have tips to share?

Good luck and see you at the runs!

I just posted the CFO training run for this coming Saturday evening.

I'm sorry that my schedule got too tight to get it in this week, as I'd hoped. Family things cut my Toontown time down.

I try to have them monthly. The last one was Sept. 8th, so we are certainly do for another and I'm delighted to read that there is interest in them. I hope to see lots of sign ups from those who like to help and those who want to spend a little time practicing.
