How far to help a "baby" toon?

Just a question. Bit long winded.

Yesterday, a SF and I needed about 300-400 JNs each (I'm BW, hes LE) So we decide to do a DA A in NR.

Well, there are two 60ish toons standing there, begging us to go with them. Neither has fog. Both had b-day cake maxed. One may have had squirt. Lots of "please", "can you help me", you know the drill.

While we had rather just do the 3 floors with the two of us, we say OK, "Lets work together", "I need more JNs", etc. We stood there and SF chat for aminute to decide to do this. So they clearly understood that we were SFs.

So we are heading to the first set of cogs and one of the 60ish toons says "Use the Speedchat" "I can't understand you". So I say, "No thank you", "Sorry I can't".

Well you would think that she was doing me a favor by being there. She proceeded to continuously chat the entire time - you know, randomly typing to annoy the other three of us. continuously. And saying "Use the Speedchat", "I can't understand you." Well, dear, thats the whole point of SF chat - I don't want you to understand me.

So we fog, they ele, first set goes down. My friend and I keep chatting, ignoring her. After all, we didn't ask her to come, she asked us.

First set of puzzles. I get there first, and say "I'll get this one". I start clearning the mine sweep. She promptly runs around me and triggers the cogs.

Fine, I use Lvl 7 squirt to get rid of them. My friend uses lure - she throws out marbles....argh. But both my friend and I say "No problem.", "lets use squirt"

We get to first skele-cog room, she continues to fake -sf chat to annoy everyone. We take them out using my friend's organic bday cake, my lure and the other toons throw. She uses marbles again. I suggest "You should use a different gag". She says "no."

Second floor, more of the same. She tells us to use SF chat, she trips another set of holos, uses trap, etc. When we get hit, we tune them up while they work gags. We do suggest gag selections (ie: "I'm going to use lure", "Lets all go for the same cog", etc." We never said or did anything negative, although this little experiment in random altruism cost several level 7s.

Third floor. At this point, it is clear, at least to me, that she isn't 6 or 7. More like 12 or 13, and being as obnoxious as she can be. I can't remember if we had a 3rd set of holos or not. I don't think so.

Finally on last set of cogs. She pulls out an aaoogah. I say "You should choose a different gag", shes says "No". I say "I'm going to use lure". And she continues her fake-sf chat. Well, if she doesn't want my lure...

Meanwhile, the other 60 has played as a team member, tuning up, following gag selection, etc. Well played. So, he needs a tune up for 6 or 7 laffs, my friend tunes him up. The troublesome toon is down 2 or 3 laffs as well. We decided to see if the other 60 toon would tune her up. He decided not to. (yes, he had lvl 3 tu) So he was as annoyed, it seems, as we were. So we all passed.

So, we all sit back and watch her aaogah the final set of cogs. Uh oh. Well, if you've ever been in a DA, if you are the only one who hits the cogs, you are toast. And of course, she was. As she went sad, she was all "You Stink". "That wasn't nice", etc.

So I ask - did she, or did she not, deserve her fate? Yes, I could have thrown out a Unite. Or for that matter, used a level 7. But at no time in the whole DA did she once act polite, as a team member, or anything else. She used speedchat with enough facility that it wasn't just a young kid fooling around. She was very quick with using phrases that only a much older kid would be able to use. She constantly told us to "hurry", or "Use the Speedchat" or "No" to gag selections.

Should we have let her die? Or is this how the rep of "bad big toons" gets started? Am I obligated to save the life of a toon who clearly has no understanding of team play, politeness or civility?

Of course, the three of us who remained danced. The other 60ish toon was happy, got the law cogs it needed, and the experiement in random kindness was at least partially successful.

Just looking for your thoughts.

thanks,
Craig

Craig~

Many's the time in the endless DA's that the younger/smaller toons begged for help. I understand what you were up against.

Personally, you gave her more chances than I would have. The noise would have driven me batty and I would have jumped long before pushing forward. I know this is a 'kids' game, but there is only so much patience we all have. I look to the basic rule of do unto others, but also help those who help themselves.

Sounds like she was clearly there to cause trouble, and she didnt deserve to dance for being the one to cost so much time and effort into a relatively short simple run. She asked for help and bit the hand that fed her so to speak.

I wouldn't let it bother you too much, we all have our moments here, Doc included.

You put up with her longer than I could've. She probably learned her lesson. Anymore if after the first 2 sets of cogs in mint or wherever if it's not going well I just leave. I have no patience anymore for people. Now that sally is in Big DA offices all the time, I really have no patience in that place. Don't beat yourself up Craig. She had many chances.
PS That pretend SF chatter, drives me batty!

In the words of a dear friend - MELT HER!

I'm usually very tolerant and patient, but from the sounds of it she crossed the line. I think when she triggered the holo's on purpose the second time I would've just stood back and watched, at least for the first round. Either she would have had to lure, use a 7 (if she had) or an SOS. If she lived, I would have joined then to see if she'd learned her lesson. If she persisted with her poor sportsmanship, then I would've just continued playing as if we were a 3 toon team - no wasting unites for that kind of behaviour.

I have to agree that nothing bothers me more in TT than the toons that do that rapid pretend sf chat. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard even with the sound off LOL.

Maybe she is used to being treated like a baby in the CCG VP?

Anyway, I say you did good!

Kill the low laff whenever you get a chance, nothing is more fun then that!

Bring IT!
But before you do, ask around as I understand there is a new clan that is out to get me. Maybe you will ask the right person and be able to join them.

Well I am glad you posted this thread, you couldn't have found a better example! It is striking that all the text is about the troublesome toon acting out, and little for the one who was cooperative. Kudos to the one who played well. As for the other one, hopefully she/he will realize that this is a cooperative game and her actions will hold her back. As long as you and your friend used speedchat at the cogs to show your intentions, you are in the clear as far as I am concerned.

Everyone has their limits in patience,

I would have kept her untill the last battle, just so she can be the cogs target and take some hits, then on the last battle she would have gone sad.

I try to be nice, but there are some toons who are on my bad list and deserve to go sad.

I would have consitered that toon a greifer and would not tu her.

I thank you for posting this all well. For years nothing has bothered me more than the fake annoying SF chat and non-team players. That is what TT is all about when participating in battles: teamwork. Clearly she was not part of the team. You had every right to do what you did. I think most of us "big kids" have been there done that. You can only take so much blatant disregard from a non-team player. I will also say that the DA office is no place to be working a gag. She obviously did not care what so ever that you had to pull out your level 7 gags to finish out the battle. I say "off with their little toon heads!!!"
*Update* Just got into a similar situation in the Factory while trying to collect my merits after the 8 PM VP battle. Went in with 3 other toons, an 18, a 36, and a 46. During the first 3 battles even after luring and saying numerous times "let's all go for the same cog", "let's work together", etc. everytime these toons all went for a different cog alas waking them up. I could only TU and Lure so many times. Realizing they just didn't get it I bailed. I am sorry but I was not willing to use my level 7 gags and my stash of SOS cards to keep carrying them. Would have been better off doing the factory alone.

Wow

You are far more patient than the average player. She would have maxxed my skills at the second set of holo's she triggered and been sent packing then . You took her far more farther than alot of us would have with her attitude, and who knows maybe she'll learn from that
(Welcome to the Bad Big Toons club....LOL jk)

Well, I think you did the right thing.

I'm only a 54 laffer, but I always stop by to help a toon standing near a building or factory. When they are 29 laff and near a factory, I always take shortcuts to save them. When I'm in a building, I use the lure left kill right strategy. If they're not a team player, I dtich or kill 'em on spot. You have more patience than most of us have cptunal, so you are defintely not a low-laff killer.

Hopefully she learned her lesson, because that must have been a waste of time and gags on her part.

I have to agree whole-heartedly with you, and also that I would have run out of patience way before then. I had a similar experience in a mint a couple of nights ago. My son and I went into a coin mint with a couple of 60ish laffers. I will normally go into a mint with anyone, since my gags are big enuff to usually handle most anything. However, I was on Lily, and she and my son are both lureless. One of them had magnets, and we would have been ok, but without fail they would go for different cogs or pull out sound on lured cogs no matter what I said to them. As we ran low on toonup, I finally told my son to bail, said "This isn't what I'm looking for", and hightailed it out of there. First time in a long time I've had to do that.

You tried to help, she failed to help herself. I have to agree with most of the responses she would have never gotten to the supervisor with me.
