CFO Crain Training

I am sure this is a question that has a thread somewhere ... but I can't find it. Sir Christopher is dying to operate the CFO crain, but we won't let him until he has some "training" under his belt. We also feel that an official CFO run is not the time for him to experiment when there would/could be others unaware of his inexperience.

Are there training runs for those who want to hone their craining skills, or want to discover if craining is a one of their skills?

Craning, it’s all about the arrow keys

Basics first, I know you know them

CTRL Key - use this key to grab a goon or a safe
use arrow keys to maneuver

1. Successfully grab a goon. Maintain finger on the CTRL key.

2. Bring crane so it aims straight at the CFO. Use the left and right arrow key to accomplish this. Maintain finger on the CTRL key.

3. Once the crane is aligned straight at the CFO, bring the crane all the way back with the back arrow key or the down arrow key. Maintain finger on the CTRL key.

4. Maintain finger on the CTRL key.

5. Bring the crane forward all the way with the up arrow key(forward arrow) and once the crane is swinging at the CFO let go of the CTRL key and fling the goon or safe.

6. Repeat steps 1 through 6 over and over and over.

The CCG hosts a VP and a CFO training run each month.
CFO will be the next one, look for it here in about a week!
Sign up in the thread stating you want to practice cranework.

That sounds fantastic, for I also haven't had any crane practice at all. I'll look for that thread!

One thing not mentioned is the strategy of when to throw a goon or when to throw a safe.

I think I have a good understanding, but since I could be wrong I will not post what I believe to be the logical use of each tool. Mastering the arrow keys seems to be only part of the crane skill.

Perhaps someone who is better schooled in the strategy could also post that info to this thread.

Goon throwing is ALWAYS good stuff. You can't go wrong with it.

Safes do extra damage only when he's dizzy and stunned (relate this to the stunned VP and pies experience.) However, WARNING, they harm the progress for the team and seriously can endanger everyone during the ending of the battle if thrown when he's not stunned. A safe will become a helmet on the CFO and then prevent the goons from damaging the CFO and prevent further progress in the game towards the win.

The goons progress in severity as the battle makes progress. The goon color signals the value of the hit from that goon. The higher towards his head the better the hit value. It can be as low as 6 (I might have seen a three once, I can't remember.) Safes can go up to 50 theoretically, although I think I've only seen 49s. The first part of the crane time he stays stunned the longest, and during the end the shortest. So, you can get about 3 hits with the safe at first, if it's nearby when he's first stunned, but don't try more than one during the orange and red goons. The short stun he's using makes putting a safe on his head more likely and more dangerous for the whole team.

CFO training run will be next weekend. I haven't yet decided on day and time. I'll post here as soon as I can get a family schedule worked out so it doesn't conflict with my CCG schedule.

I have another question as I am officially the worst craner ever!! The only time I even attempt to get on is when no other toons want the crane.

Anyway, the goons I throw ALWAYS bounce off the CFO! I pick them up again, throw and they bounce right off again. Is there ever a time that you shouldn't throw a goon, like when his back is to you?? Or do I simply have no skill whatsoever? (Ok, maybe I don't want to hear the answer to that )

Ok, I know that it is a poor musician who blames its instrument, however, I swear it is my computer's fault. I am in need of a new one and I am convinced that my computer is preventing me from craning. Does anyone notice a difference if they are using different computers?

Thanks,

Gwen

ps---I also blame my computer when I make poor gag selections

Goons are always good. There's never a bad time to throw a goon. They bounce when they land if they are thrown too low. The thing is to get the crane swinging and release at the end so it kinda flys up.

Somebody told me that it actually works a lot like a real crane (I was surprised.) They told me to practice with a string and weight while we commuted in a car to control the side swing and the release. It did help a little. Since I can't get tt off my mind, it was a way to practice when I was not near a computer (what addiction!)

Is it the computer's fault? It most deffinately is! Computer is always to blame in the CFO (unless the monkey is around, which means it's his fault.) Lag is a factor for both crane and stomping. Things aren't where you view them to be. You just must make adjustments for your own system. Try different places to release until you find what works for you and your computer. I have several computers and each is different. One is deemed impossible to use for CFO...just too slow to work.

Good luck, we are all here to help you. We don't mind having you try it out on CCG runs and if you find it's dangerous and scary...just say, "Please opperate the crane." and somebody will happily take it over.

crimson dynamo, thank you! I've been keeping an eye out for CFO training day as well and read the CFO guides around TTC, but none of them did as good a job as your 6-step intructions on how to crane. I've done almost 15 CFOs and finally gave up to be a stomper, but now I might get the courage to try my hand at the crane again now.

Thanks a million!

Trying to type with a nice John Wayne slang in it because I am saying Miss Lily.

I hope it works for you.

Let me know if it helped.

Loki is correct.

But I think you should worry about flinging a goon first though. Once you have flinging of goons down, then I would proceed to safe throwing.

You can NEVER go wrong by flinging goons.

But whatever floats your boat.

It did help. The CFO focused on me quite a few times with his gears, but I still managed to hit him a few times with a goon. Picked up a safe or two, but dropped it back to the ground since I wasn't comfortable with the timing yet and didn't want to provide him with a helmet.

Thanks again!
