Yijes! Sorry to hear your computer was lagging so bad.
We have a dedicated cable line, but mine's been lagging so badly today that I wouldn't even go into buildings, I was afraid it'd mess everyone else up. When I run down a street and stop in the middle it will be empty and then suddle 4 cogs and 5 toons pop out of nowhere in a middle of a battle and ready to go into a building. Then they all just vanish again. I ran into cogs that weren't there twice and then after that I just gave up and shut down. So frustrating! Glad that you made it through though! |

So glad you mentioned it
I'm glad you brought this up.
One time in the CJ I saw a toon just standing there. I was thinking that it was terrible of them to go in if they couldn't help out. Then recently, a friend of mine, who is new to the CCG, stopped helping in the CJ and his toon fell asleep. He told me he was stuck, but no one else knew what was going on. He did eventually come back and start helping again and later told me his screen had been black. I felt bad for him because when the credits rolled, he didn't have any "You are Awesomes!"s besides mine. Poor guy! I know next time I see a toon sleeping in the CJ, I won't be so quick to judge them. They are probably just having computer problems. Better luck next time! |

Guys, at least minimum you can do in order to improove your computer performances - eachtime before CJ battle - delete Temporrary files under Internet Options - it will liberate at least some Ram space - which might make a difference when lagging in LAw HQ.
Point is that many spyware wares even harmless ones "hide" their roots in temporrary files and overload the system by runing in "background" Best is of course to improve your graph card, ram, internet connection, etc - but deleting temporrary files - is the minimum you can do - which might bring quite a change during boss battles .. try that |

In addition to the above, I also close out any active programs other than my firewall (things like email notifier, desktop weather, etc.) to help eliminate any extra lag on the memory.
The only problem I have now is if my firewall asks me to let a program update something and I deny it. For some reason my screen gets really weird...black and white with all the chat phrases blacked out. That only happened once, though, thank goodness! |

Trust me -- I've learned NEVER to run a boss battle, building, or factory/mint with any other window on.
And I still don't see why that would offend anyone if someone had lag -- it happens! It really, really does. My computer's definately not new, but it definately has the right specs to run Toontown, and there is still lag! I just wish people would realize that. But I also have a question, should I keep my virus scanner on or off when I play Toontown? Maybe this could be my biggest lag culprit. |

I turn my virus scanner off when I play TT or The Sims.
We're running top performance here. My SO is a computer techie and we have our own shop. There is no spyware and we have a dedicated cable line, people sometimes LAG HAPPENS. In our case there is only one way to get rid of it..........We send the teenage out to play football. LOL It got so bad theother day I actually shut the network off. MWAHAHAHAHAHA. He was told no more downloading music and no more chatting on FIVE messengers at once, but as soon as Gramma left he was onl there running SEVEN programs at once. That was when I started lagging REALLY bad. So I left TT and went into the shed and shut down. He got bored after an hour and left to play football so I turned it back on. Ha! Every time out "weekly test" signal goes off on the television we get booted out of TT also. We've registered complaints with the cable company as it should NOT do that, but they have no clue how to fix it. Grr! When I hear that test pattern start up on the TV now I say "I'm Stuck!" because I know I have half a second before it throws me out of the game. |

You could turn your virus scan off since you aren't opening files or programs, just don't turn the firewall off (if you have one). I schedule updates on my firewall so it doesn't happen while I am playing. |

I play TT on 2 laptops one is : Toshiba Intel Pentium M processor 1,73GHz 1,00 Go of RAM and another one: HP AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+ 1,99 GHz 1,25 GO of RAM on the Toshiba one there are always severall programs runing in the background - like MSN chat, shared files, iTunes, TTC, and few other sites that I might be using. And btw, indeed - I noticed that If I keep an antyvirus prog runing - it does affects TT - not in a heavy way - but I notice slight delay here and there comparing to when it's off So in fact what I did - I unistalled virus programm - and I just install it every 3 months to make an antivirus, antyspyware scan - then I unistall it again til lthe nextr check out. I take precautions of course when surf net, I'm carefull not to use certain sites, not open any wierd exe files of course, etc. Plus since I use this laptop only for leisure - I can afford to reformat and reinstall all if ever I'll get something harmfull on my system. I never had anything like that as for now . (except maybe for a TT keyloger - but that's a different story lol "See no evil!") And I use it since over a year this way Yes, so to answer your question - I would keep your virus scanner on "off " mode when playing TT - especially if you don't use any other sites/windows during runing TT - so there is no risk. But it is true that any antyvirus scan/program (like any other programm) does put additional weight on your RAM as well as the whole system, so it might cause lag , which will be especially noticable during TT boss fight (or any other online game requiring simultaneous actions) - which takes a lot of your computer resources |

Ooooopppssssssss..
Anyone know Amthyst? Lavendar cat who sometimes stands there, doing nothing? Well. Thats me, and i have BAD LAG. I have a wireless router, which is NOT in my room, and that makes it worse. For those of you who want to stink me, IM SO SORRY. Alot of the times I X out, because of the stupid lag. ;; So if you EVER see a lavendar cat named Amthyst standing there, its lag that took over my comp. It usually takes... 20, 30 or even more minutes for it to stop. Im really sorry. Lol, Lily knows. :(

When I see a toon just standing there I assume it's either lag or some RL crisis. (As Prof Wally said, what is this RL you speak of?
) It never occurred to me that someone would just stand there in a boss fight!I play on a wireless connection on a pretty good laptop. Lately there has been some lag in the CFO where I freeze for about 30 seconds or so, sometimes in midair (to me) giving a matrix effect! But I can freeze pretty badly in the CJ evidence round, quite frustrating. Maybe for a minute or two. I guess what I'm saying is that most people have experienced that and understand! |

Ok... I thought if I shut off my McAffe that I could get a virus or worm since I am on DSL. We have a firewall on our wireless network, but not on each computer. The firewall on each computer prevents us from file sharing, so I shut it off.
So, if I shut McAffee off while I'm on TT, can we get a worm or virus? That sounds pretty scary to me. |

It's horrible when I get lag because I feel like I'm letting everyone down because I can't do anything. Once in a CFO (my first on the toshiba) I lagged completly to the 2nd or 3rd dancer when the CFO was orange. I felt so bad, but from the sounds I heard (computer sends sounds, but can't develop the movement when it lags) they did great, so if you lag when the CCG is around, I'm sure they'll understand. Most of us get that too, from the looks of it. |

I'm connected on both lappys through wifi (SMC 2804WBR barricade g router) works perfectly! I had to update a wifi connection driver on Toshiba laptop though - you can find one easilly (driver update I mean) on google- otherwise it was fluctating in speed - which was causing lagg/freezing during boss battles. Since that update - and its almost a year now - I never experienced any problem and it works perfectly all the way, inspite that I'm not connected directly through cable but through wifi. Well, speaking about toons standing there doing nothing - one of my toons Max is exactly one of those most of the times during "after cog" parts of boss battles - but thats because he's free riding ![]() Quote:
Or right click the icon of your antyvirus scan on the lower bar of your computer screen and click on "close/exit" - that will prevent at least from antivirus pop-outs. Another suggestion that I would give, to answer Little Fancy Pedalwhip's question - if you already have a firewall integrated in your router/modem - I would disable the one on the computer. Thats what I did actually on my laptops. To my opinion internet provider's or modem/router producer's integrated firewall already protects you from any intruders. Double filter is waste of resourses. Plus reall hackers, trojans etc have their ways around firewalls, belive me. Another thing, if you really worried about the fact that certain data from your computer be damaged due to a virus or might be lost during reinstallation - save it on the external hard disk Last edited by DJ Max; 08-31-2006 at 12:53 PM. |
