SF Chat Problem

My SF chat is intermittent. There are times when 30%-60% of the conversation is not translated either way by whisper or when standing side-by-side. We do not think we are saying anything that needs censoring. We primarily talk about the game. It seems to work during Mint/Factory/Da Office runs, building battles and Boss fights. However, sf chat is spotty when we are standing around on the street, in the Factory Pit, outside the CFO lobby or in a playground. It is also sometimes spotty when we call each other from another area of the game.

I am sending my second bug report to Disney but I am not confident that they will be helpful. Their response to my first report was that they could not duplicate the problem and it might be my hardware/software. Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, how did you resolve it?

HELP!

A friend was whispering to me, from where I'm not sure and where I was I can't remember.
Anyway, it was information on her Big Wig 50 party and I caught the part where she asked me if I would join her, then the next whisper was something else... and I asked her what time and when... and that's when she asked me if I didn't get the whisper before that and I replied with a no.
It seemed the second time around she told me when and what time... I was able to see it.

Sometimes the responses that Disney gives is either an automated response or it's our computers that are causing the errors and what gets me is how come it's OUR computers and not THEIR system?
It's like when you send in a Bug Report and they say "Disney doesn't support the Window Mode and to please change back to Full Screen." I laugh at this because if Disney doesn't support the Window Mode, then why do they offer it?

Why is it always that we need to update our Graphics Card, or our Router or something else when we only experience these errors while playing Toontown and nothing else?

When Disney told me that I needed to update my router, I was on the phone with Linksys and the woman told me that the ONLY time I would need to do this is if my router wasn't connecting or something... that whatever problem I was experiencing was not my router, but their server or whatever... but I updated my router anyway because it is 4 years old. I also update my Graphics Card if it looks like I actually do need it.
Here's something Disney told me. I had just sent in a Bug Report and their response was I needed to get the recent drivers for my Graphics Card. I did... I uninstalled the old driver and installed the new one. I got on Toontown and experienced the same issue and they were so considerate to actually read my 2nd Bug Report that their reply was for me to update my Graphics Card. Well, needless to say I replied right back and told them that had they paid attention to what I wrote in my Bug Report they wouldn't have needed to waste my time in telling me to do something I already did.

As far as I can tell by all the errors that people put in the forum... there is NO possible way that it's thousands of personal computers that are experiencing these problems but Disney's.

Good Luck on reporting this to Disney and actually getting a real person to take time out and look into the issue.

Playing on two computers and seeing both screens has helped me discern what will always be a problem. I can give you a couple simple tips that might help.

Times won't show because the colon is on Disney's blocked list. To force a time to show, us a period not the regular colon. Example 8.30pm not 8:30pm.

I have my own issues with typing to fast and when I hit the shift for the question mark, I let off to quick and get a back slash, but don't notice it and slam the Enter key. That question will never show up on the person's screen. Slashes are on Disney's list of sensored punctuation. Question marks, good news...are permitted.

The other punctuation mark that blocks your chat from appearing is the quotes mark. You can't say, "No" for example, since it's in quotes. To slip around that one use the apostraphe punctuation. It'll show up with 'no' rather than "no."

There's a huge list of words that are censored, and you'll find many creative spellings that are used to get around that one. The most frustrating ones are the words that Disney put in the "name your toon" lists but they won't permit anybody to type. If you attempt to type any name with the word "whip" in it for instance, your entire chat will not show up. That word is not permitted, yet it's in many names. "Boo boo" has the same issues.

To make it even worse, is that these "illegal" words and marks will show up on your screen above your own head, with the acompanying toon animal sound that leads you to think you did say it. The other person saw nothing, heard nothing. It's wise to ask if they saw that. If you are chatting and a space of time passes without a returning chat...you KNOW, you didn't see the bubble that they put the time into typing. Right away, tell them that what they said didn't show up. They might let you know, they didn't say anything. That's fine, at least you are communicating.

I've had friends really angry at me for ignoring them. I wasn't ignoring, I was chatting up a storm, but Disney was blocking it all from showing up on their screen. I had no clue it wasn't showing, since it was showing on my screen.
Now I say, "Did that show?" quite often...but I say......did it show....and never use question marks or quotes when I ask....cuz, ironically, then my question wouldn't show. LOL....Hope that helps out a little.

That's the part that irritates me the most! I never know if someone is seeing what I wrote or not. I see it but then I get no response. I did everything Pixanator did...upgrades, drivers etc. It is entirely possible my friends are ignoring me LOL but I doubt it.
Anyway, they could at least fill your bubble with ***** instead of leaving you hang on whether your message got through or not.

Thanks for the tips, btw...

Last summer (before they got even more strict) I tried to tell my friend how my sister was doing...(she had gotten menigitis while she was visiting us) I said, "she has a headache but otherwise she is fine" My friend asked again how my sister was and I repeated that comment. "head" was blocking me...go figure.

It often happens to me that I hit the / or the @ or something else not allowed when I am typing too fast. It helps to slow down and proofread before I hit enter!

Well, I have to admit the censorship problems are very irritating. It doesn't really effect me because I usually spend my most time playing with a certain toon to who I can easily repeat censored chat through instant messengers. One problem that does affect me is when I'm playing games I use smiley faces like : - ) or : -( or : - (. So now because I don't like fishing for my speedchat menu everytime I'll just type sad face or happy face. The backslash question mark thing Gets me all the time.

Thanks to the wonders of alt codes I have some makeshift smiley faces:
ò.ó ó.ò ô.õ ö.Ô Ò.ó Ò.Ô Ò.Ó Ó.Ò

And so on.

What's most annoying about the censoring is that if I type a comma quickly, I'll sometimes miss and hit the semicolon, which is censored. I'll then have to type what I said over again.

Ridiculous.

Agreed! Also the slash for the question mark. That one gets me every time.

As for the OP's problem, if you are saying "fight" like your post states, that's your problem. FIGHT filters. *shrug* Any smiley face filters.. well any punctuation but # ! , . ? ' filters. It happened around Christmas time. Ridiculous indeed. You can't even say "Hang on, I'm on the phone" because PHONE filters.

<3 = Arrow three (I've had to explain why I say arrow three many times.. heh..)

Uh huh, so does everyone else. My point was how ridiculous is a filter that filters the words phone and fight?

It Was Me!

The OP was talking about chatting with me. She's way right about how innocuous our chats are. If we're dealing with censoring, the idea about somehow letting the toons know they've transgressed is wonderful (translate that into - it won't get done). Show us ****'s or just don't show the talk balloon - something.

The funny thing is how we (OP & I) blunder into chats that contain a 'bad' word (notice the apostrophe quotes). It usually takes a bit before we realize we're not being heard... kinda frustrating.

Thanks for all the responses - Ladybug was really asking for both of us.

See you all in the primary colors world,

Purplesmirk
