A little harsh?
Yes, I know what you're going through. My parents' computers are slower, so I actually just stick to tasks unaffected so much by lag when I'm there. I would recommend you have a friend with a lot of computer knowledge check your computer to see if a hard-drive update would help speed things up. This would be cheaper than a new computer. Or adding memory. I'm not sure about all the tech stuff, I just know there are ways. |

Before playing toontown ensure all other applications are closed and you've ended process which run in the background which don't need to be running.
Ensure you have no less than 512 Mg of memory on this system. Ensure you're on a newer processor (PII 400Mhz will run this game ungodly slow) Ensure you've scanned your computer for spyware. Contact Disney if that doesn't help.

Well, I think I exceeded expectations. I am at 63 laff yet a level 8 Mover & Shaker. I want to get my last gag track frame because I only need 1 more, the problem is whenever a cog does the move with the round teeth and the circle of pixie dust comes out, I don't even need to be in the battle, my computer automatically crashes.

Try updating your graphics driver, but remember to uninstall the one you have before updating it. Off topic - I sent in a bug report regarding invisible toons in battle and they told me to update my driver, I did and have had no problems since. |

Just to let you know that not everyone here is on the Toontown "fast track".
We've been playing this game for over two years now, but you'd never know it from the laff levels or suit levels of our toons. Would you believe we only have one Holly level toon and one Baron level toon in our family (and they aren't even the same toon?!)? Why? * Some people just have more HOURS to spend on this game than others. When my kids first started playing Toontown, they were playing no more than an hour or two each day. At that rate, it took them about a month to complete all the tasks in a single playground. I have a lot more experience now, and can whiz through toontasks and other activities a lot more efficiently, but still can only make so much progress when playing an hour or two each day. * Each player has different PRIORITIES when playing Toontown, and this affects how quickly they advance. If you pick one toon and put all your time and effort into advancing that toon, that toon will get ahead far faster than if you are spread out among several different toons. (I spread my time among four different toons these days--and it shows.) Some players choose to emphasize one part of the game over another, and this affects their laff levels. For instance, I have friends who really enjoy building gags and maxxing out their toons, but don't especially care for the HQs. Some of these friends are the most awesome gag-builders, strategists, and cog-destroyers I have ever met. But you'd never know it from their laff levels or suit levels. So, I wouldn't worry too much about your toon's laff levels or suit levels. The important question to ask is whether you and your daughter are still enjoying the game and enjoying playing your toon. If the answer is yes, then just keep doing what you are doing, and have fun in Toontown. If the answer is no, then maybe it's time for a change. Try building a second toon, joining a guild or clan, or doing something completely different--like creating an uber or a toon with unusual gags (like no lure or no sound or no toonup). Or focus your efforts on another part of the game for awhile, like fishing or racing. Or find something you really enjoy about the game, like helping little toons build their gags or complete tasks, and do that for awhile. Whatever you decide, have fun in Toontown! Violet B.

My lag in the HQ's is terrible, too. You're not the only one! But, recently we tried adjusting the resolution on the Toontown options page. We set it to a higher resolution, and this did help! I still have lag sometimes, but it's not as bad as it was before. Before I could not even do the VP because my screen would invariably freeze up during the final pie-throwing battle and I would die. Now, at least I can get through it, although with some hesitations. I'm proud to say that I am now a Telemarketer! LOL.
I have to agree with Violet B., though. The important thing is not "winning" per se, but just having fun playing the game. I joined up with a group of moms who play toontown daily, and we have a blast. We're secret friends and love to goof around and chat during the tedious parts (getting merits, etc.). Our goal is just to have fun and not worry about who has more laff, better gags, a better suit, etc. We help each other out and share in each other's triumphs. That's what really makes this game, in my opinion. |

Post your system specs here, see what can be done. There are a LOT of different changes you can make to speed it up. Sometimes changing the screen resolution helps. Try updating all your graphics drivers, directX, and any windows updates that are available. Download spybot search and destroy and adaware, to remove any spyware. If your on dial-up this might not help at all, but worth a shot. There are always little tricks to speed it up, other games for example, I found that turning down hardware sound acceleration helps fix a lot of problems strangely enough.
I notice this goon thing all the time tho, I think it is internet lag actually. Try going to cfo with friends who understand whats up and just hang back. I let people hang out behind me sometimes. |
