Mods and Admins I have a question

Uhhh I made a thread yesterday and it was destroyed and I have no idea why.

It was entitled "toontowncentral election" and I came up with the idea of haveing an election in TTC.

I posted rules but never posted anything bad...

So why did you delete it? I know you probably had a good reason but I would like to know why. Even a pm is fine I just want to know.

What my guess is, is someone must have put somthing really bad,
making the mods want to close it as soon as possible so no one would see.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe they just closed it before to many people saw it? I mean it would promote some spam.

It was deleted for favoritism.

"Favoritism Posts" - This includes posts that indicates "Who's the best poster, player, toon, etc. This can cause many issues that make the users of this site feel inferior or hurt.

Aww, man I'm not possitive but I think that means somthing like: A thread that makes people want to favor other people.

I don't really see how this would fall into my thread's catogory.
I even said for people to grade eachoter on their speeches not their popularity and I also said that you can't post who you vote for....

Contests aren't allowed, some people are really sensitive so if they lose or whatever in a contest something can go wrong, just understand.

EXAMPLE:

contest for cutest toon!

3 toons enter, Toon 1, Toon 2, and Toon 3

Toon 1 wins and Toon 3 is sensitive. Toon 3 threatens the contest maker and such, that's why contests are kinda a horrible idea.

Dontcha think this is a bit much? Kids do stuff like that, it's part of growing up. I think as long as there is no profanity you shouldn't be trying to control what the kids are talking about...
Don't get too carried away with the guidelines....
Just remove posts that flame , instead of saying nobody can, the kids who are getting upset need to learn.
This is kind of like punishing the whole class because one or two are misbehaving.

Speaking as a mom, I think Batleth is right. Super lime said that people could "grade" each other on speeches and such. That would cause hurt feelings and all to frequently hurt feelings start big battles. This may be putting the cart before the horse but in this case I have to agree. We dont need the kids here getting the message that "everybody is better than me" because its not true. This forum has a very wide range of ages and skill levels and its simply not fair to state that someone's speech is better than someone else's for whatever reason. How do we know that speech isnt the absolute best work that person ever produced. We cant, plain and simple. Its just better that it not be allowed in the first place.

Yes, but isn't that how they generally act with each other...it's how they grow, constantly comparing themselves to each other.

I dunno, I can see your point but I think in a public setting like here, we can control profanity or adult content, but it's going a bit far when we think we can stop kids from hurting each others feelings.

So what about fashion contests? Are they out too because someone might get upset not winning?

I can kind of see the ones where a kid appoints himself a judge, but that's part of life too.. people judge each other and you have to learn to take criticism and to not take it if the source is unqualified.
Least that's what I teach my son when he comes home from school upset because someone said his artwork was crummy....

The main reason why favoritism posts were not allowed was not because of "inferiority" problems although they do accompany them. Kids would get upset because they weren't getting voted for. Things like "who's the ugliest toon" and "who's the stupidest toon" and "who's toon is the cutest" and there was enough cause to be concerned over where some of them were going.

However, the underlying reason we don't allow them is because of the increasing amount of them. There were, at one time, ten of these polls in the poll forum in one day. Every day, someone would create a new contest of "who's the cutest" "who's the most popular" "who's the best poster" "who's the ugliest toon" and so on. So much so that it got to be a problem and the boards were drowned in them. So Nick told us to add that to the guidelines.
