Should the "There" thread be deleted?

I just got the following email:

Quote:
...I think the "There" thread needs to go away. It is not germaine to the discussions of this site. Besides, forum sites for "There" appear to have been created; therefore, "There" discussions should mover there...
I guess that's one vote against There, anyone for?

My feeling: It is in the Playground, the general, off-topic forum. It doesn't seem to be taking over this place. It does seem to relate to Toontown, sorta, since it involves Toontown players who are also playing There.

I never had any complaints about the posts that talked about other games (i.e. Diablo 2). Is anyone else worried about threads about There?

There's not a vote for "I think that's "Rudderly Ridiculos", so i went with the next best thing

Welp, it seems fitting to me

Seems to be alot more views then posts on this , which isnt that unusual.

Personally , I dont care . IF Anarchy and Kid dont have a problem with it , fine by me.

One thing about threads , if no one responds to them , it doesnt really take long for them to disappear on their own. If you dont like a thread , leave it alone , it ll go away.

Since I started the thread I will post my views...

I posted the original post (the very first one) to let my friends know I was splitting time between two games now. It grew and grew and grew from that point.

It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other if the "there" thread stays or goes, but I just want my friends who are wondering if I fell off the planet to know where I am. Some have not played toontown in ages (gasp, yes it's true, many take breaks so they don't get sick of toontown as if such a thing could ever happen) and I'm hoping they check these boards occasionally as I do to see what's going on.

Perhaps instead of removing the thread, which contains no offensive or otherwise questionable content, the thread could be locked. I can't do this myself or I would gladly do so. That way if one of my friends is looking for me and uses the search function to find my latest posts they will find it and know where I am. At the same time no new replies can be posted to it, which means as new posts are made the "There" post will get bumped further and further down the list.

Does this sound like a fair compromise? As someone who has contributed paypal to this site to cover bandwidth and hosting costs on two occasions, I hope that the moderators will take my financial support into consideration when using their judgement in this issue.

(And no, I never made those contributions expecting preferential treatment, but I would expect a little leeway in this situation )

Finally, I apologize if anyone was offended by my "There" post. Although I am quite at a loss as to how it was offensive in the first place :P

I think it would be exponentially retarded to post a message to my toontown friends on a there message board and expect the ones who do not play There to find it.

hey, I used up all my tact in the previous reply :P

I voted NO, I think the thread should be allowed.

KB is right, this forum is for discussion of anything (within reason.) If more than a couple of the threads on the first page were about There, we'd have a problem and I would vote for locking them. But as long as it's just the one thread, I don't see it as anything to cause concern. As more interested people get accepted into the There beta, they will have access to the official There forums and will (hopefully) post about There there and not here.

Suggestion: Make the Playground for "ToonTown related talk that doesn't fit into other categories", and create another forum for truly off-topic discusions. This might appease everyone?

My Mood:
I started off playing The Sims and frequenting The Sims Resource, which is kinda one of the main Sims fansites. On the forums there, someone had mentioned Neopets to me and I went and checked it out. I became instantly hooked. And after one year of playing Neopets, someone in my guild mentioned TT Online in the forum. Hence my presence here. Since then, I have been recommended to There and Asheron's Call by people from these forums. Why not allow the threads? Its how people find out about new stuff. I don't see where it is hurting TT at all. If it wasn't for game-dropping in forums, I wouldn't be here, and I wouldn't know all you wonderful people.

my vote: keep it.

Geez people (or person)! Get a grip!

Maybe we should also make special areas for different toon-types, not play with friends who don't have the same amount of laff points as us, maybe segregate the bathrooms too.

Is it really that important to exclude? Why can't we all just get along?

Oh, that's right...because we all have different views - which, by the way, is what the internet is all about...exchange of ideas.

So, in the words of Paul McCartney:
"Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be."

-disclaimer: The above post is just a fun (and pathetic) attempt at making light of such a silly topic. I in no way intend on offending any person, just merely trying to point out how rediculous the request to ban a thread about a different game is. Please don't spam me, as I really don't give a darn and just don't have the time to argue anyhow. -Toodles!

Lily, this is how I too found out about TT and Neopets! Both of which i am completely hooked on, and same for me, I wouldn't have known if people hadn't mentioned them elsewhere.

Also, this is just one reason we have subject lines, so if a thread is clearly about something we aren't interested in, the solution is simple - don't read it!

Your opinions count

I really saw no reason to kill the There thread, but I was kinda surprised that someone would. That's why I posted this poll.

I'm even more surprised that the Yes and No votes are (at this moment) evenly split. There would seem to be more people than I expected who don't want to discuss other games here.

But, the majority (over 60%) voted "Don't care". I guess that makes the threads about non-Toontown games safe for the time being.

The only reason that I can imagine for someone to not want non-Toontown games discussed would be if they were concerned about losing Toontown players to other games. It's pretty obvious from the population on the Test server that a lot of the hard core players are finding other things to do. LE seems to be keeping it's population up, I've never seen it less than 600 and often it is around 1,000. How many of the LE players are "Tooned In" to Toontown Central is another question, though.

I don't think that Toontown is in any immediate danger of fading out just yet. It is still unique, as an online kiddie world. Maybe if AOL/Time-Warner decided to to a Loony Toons world Toontown would have some competition. Until then, I think it's safe to acknowledge the existence of other games here.

well to me The Playground forum is a place for all general talk (be it in game toontown talk or daily life talk) I mean why do people single out the There topic out of all the other topic's that are off topic towards Toontown Online? ( the post your picture thread, the post your pets picture thread, and many more about daily life/news )

personally I see nothing wrong with the there thread and I don't really see why anyone else would either.

Ain't no big brother 'round here.

No I haven't played it. No, I don't plan to ever play it. No, we shouldn't go around trying to exert mind control on those to do play and want to talk about it.

But that's just my opinion.

Just like it's just your opinion that this game is "weak" or a "loser". If you don't like the game, don't read the thread. Don't go getting all fascist about other people's right to discuss whatever they want (within the bounds of good taste and mutual respect.)

Unless you are just into creating some kind of psychodrama for your own personal enjoyment, in which case - rant away.

Huh???

Delete a thread in the appropriate forum about another game? Not sure that I quite understand the reasoning behind that, then again I'm not gonna try. When toons start going to SWG when its released (and it will happen), I would like to know who went and what character they are playing. Its nice to keep in touch and maybe join my friends in another game.

I'm not interested in There either, but that doesn't mean something else won't come along that I am interested in playing. What better way to find out about new games than to read posts in forums in a game you are currently playing.

Keep the thread alive and let those playing There hook up with each other.
