Getting rid of a stupid cat

I guess that this is an example of how NOT to get rid of a cat:

Quote:
Purr-fect homecoming for elusive cat
WINNIPEG - A Selkirk woman is celebrating the return of her lost cat – 18 years after the pet first disappeared.

Leslie Dumas was puzzled when her father told her the Winnipeg Humane Society had called, asking her to get in touch with them.

"I phoned them, and they said, 'We have your cat,'" she says.

"I said, 'What cat?'"

Dumas had to think back almost 20 years to 1986, when she was 22 years old. "We had a house fire, and we had moved, and somebody let the cats out and both cats went missing," she recalls.

Just recently, a dehydrated and malnourished black cat was found wandering around the East Kildonan area of Winnipeg. A kind stranger brought him to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

The identification tattoo in the cat's ear was still legible enough for the society to find the Dumas family.

"I said to the vet, 'This can't be. He looks like Seagull, but how can this be?' He just said it has to be, because of the tags."

Seagull is going on 20. He has cataracts and can't see much – but he's a living example of the value of getting a pet tattooed.

"It's a miracle. There's no words to describe it," says Dumas. "It's just … I needed him and he needed me."

Seagull will be the guest of honour at a benefit for the Winnipeg Humane Society on Friday. Anyone who wants to see him can drop by 543 Main Street in Selkirk – and bring a can of pet food.
She should have FLUSHED it.

You know, I just had a better idea about what's going on here...
The Humane Societies are probably keen to get rid of unwanted critters. Some people get their pets tatooed for identification, and then they report them as missing...
What if the Humane Societies start tatooing animals that they want to get rid of, with the tatoos of critters that have been reported as missing?

Humane Officer: Yes, here is the cat you lost, the tatoo proves it.

Pet Owner: I don't know, I don't remember Kitty smelling like that.

HO: Well, living on the street ain't gonna make it smell like a flower garden...

PO: No, but it REALLY stinks. Besides, I don't remember Kitty having that white stripe down her tail...

HO: Well, there ya go! The stress of her predicament has caused her to begin to go prematurely grey! Now get outta here with her, we got more critters to unload -er- return to their loving owners. NEXT!

Pet Owner 2: You found my puppie dog, Poopsie?

HO: Yup, here ya go!

PO2: Ahhh! My hand!

HO: Ya, you shouldn't get too close to the cage, Poopsie seems to be a bit -um- playful. Life on the outside can help an animal develop. You outghta see what happened to the next fella's goldfish.

Awww, I think it's sooo sweeeet. Think of all the money she saved over the years, not having to buy cat food or paying for vet bills, not to mention all the kitty litter she never had to buy (and clean)!!!
