Just an observation, I havent been to Disneyland in over 10 years, even though I live about 45 minutes away. Toontown Central is based on the section of Disneyland called Mickey's Toon Town, which is loosely based on the Toontown in the Roger Rabbit movie. Characters we dont have (in game) that are in Mickey's Toon Town: Chip, Dale, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Roger Rabbit, & Gadget. Unless I'm mistaken, Winnie the Pooh, Lion King, etc dont have any part in Toon Town in the park. If they keep the "Toontown Online" theme true to the Disneyland area it's based on, I doubt you'd see any that stuff, but that's total speculation on the part of this purple duck.

/edit

Dandyboing is using a psychic medium to contact Walt himself on the "other side"?

A. The Fab 5: Minnie, Micky, Goofy, Donald, Pluto. Obviously. He said we probably won't see Daisy. The Fab came in 1918(?) and Daisy came in 1930(?).

Mickey Mouse first appeared 18-Nov-1928 in Steamboat Willie, and will go into Public Domain after 31-Dec-2003 unless the Copyright Extension Lobby succeeds at extending corporate copyright to 95 years from the current 75.

Daisy Duck arguably first appeared as Donna Duck in 1937, and with the name Daisy Duck in Mr. Duck Steps Out in 1940.

Nope. That is an AMAZINGLY COMMON misconception. Mickey actually first appeared in Plane Crazy, which was released in May 1928. Steamboat Willie was his second film.

šoš

(edit corrected Steamboat so it didn't say Stramboat)

Heh, don't believe everything you read. :)
It comes down to a question of semantics. Plane Crazy was shown in an unfinished version ONCE in May-1928, in a small theatre in Hollywood, basically to get audience reaction. Disney made no money from that showing.
Similarly, The Gallopin' Gaucho was shown in an unfinished version at the same small theatre in Aug-1928, and some would count that as the second Mickey Mouse film.

Steamboat Willie was released, that is, put into distribution & brought in money, in Nov-1928. Plane Crazy was not released into distribution until early 1929.

It's not unusual for a work in progress to be shown to a test audience while it is still in production. Someone dug up the pre-release showing of Plane Crazy just to be argumentative. It would be possible to throw off the dates of just about any film, if you counted every time that it was shown to a test audience. I prefer to use a film's Release Date, that is, when the project finally gets sent off to make money.

Well, some may prefer that, but I still say that the age of a film is when it was MADE, not when it was released. Guess I'm a stickler that way. :-)

Soooooooo, to you, you're right, but to me I'm right. So :-P to you!

I still say that the age of a film is when it was MADE

Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was Mickey. It's pretty common to have several films in production simultaneously. Especially in the 1920s, when a lot of equipment was rented. They would do a big swat of artwork, then rent a registration camera and shoot for a period of time. Process the film, rent a Moviola or whatever for editing, decide what to add, and repeat.

Nobody can really say over what period of time that those films were made. Even the dates for pre-release showings are largely based on people's recollections, since there would have been no contract for an audience test.

If you snoop around, you'll notice that there is no date given anywhere (that I have seen) for a pre-release showing of Steamboat Willie. That doesn't mean that there was no audience test, just that no one has bothered to try to find out.
It makes too good a story to say that everyone is wrong about the order of the early films.

Release date is verifiable, because there are contracts, canceled cheques, and other records that will give the dates. Without that, all you have is the memory of people who were around at the time.

Heh, all this talk about old Disney cartoons got me to go DL Steamboat Willie from KaZaa. On a side note, Mickey sure did abuse a lot of animals during that cartoon...PETA would have his butt if he did that today.
