True, it's not exactly the most thrilling part of the game. But at least it's easier to earn jellybeans fishing than it is to earn them playing the trolly games. |

LoL. Can't blame you there. But sometimes mindless tasks are a good thing. |

I also think that catching a devil ray or another ultra rare with twig rod is definetely easier than with a golden rod.
My friend was on one of her new toons and she cought a devil ray with her twig rod. I thought it was wierd since I haven't cought it yet with my golden rod. So, I created a new toon and after my 7th fish, I had the devil ray. I think the golden rod is to catch the easier fish you have missed....too bad you cant keep all your old rods and switch off so you can catch all the fish. Although I have seen people catch a Devil ray with a golden rod. Now on all my toons I don't abandon the twig rod untill I catch a devil ray. Toontown I think made the golden rod to make it harder for us to catch fish, lol. I think they kind of wanted us to buy it when we don't have the devil ray or any other ultra rare fish, in hopes of getting it.I also think this was part of their coding. |

Two methods
I see there being two possible methods. The first method is that there are 110 different tables, a table for each rod at each pond 22*5. After hitting the "target" a random fish and weight is pulled from the table with some being more likely to appear. This is what has been pretty much argued as to how fishing works.
The other possible method is that there are only 22 tables. In this scenario, after hitting the target, the table is consulted generating a fish and a weight. If the weight is too large for the rod, a new fish would be generated until there was a legal one. This method is less clean but would explain why a twig rod is good for catching light ultra rares and 22 tables is easier to maintain then 110. |

i think you are right with someone having a special pond that they can catch eneything in it....or u know!

Thought I'd post this here since it's quite the fishing oddity.
I fished for 6 hours straight yesterday in the brrgh and never caught anything other than boots and Bear Acuda's. And I've got 55 fish and the steel rod, if that makes anything any different. |

I have all 70 Species!!!
Do you want to know the best way to catch an ultra-rare?
You fish. How much effort goes into going from a Cold Caller 1 till you get the very first laff boost at Hollywood 15? How many hours does someone spend doing even the 5500 merits required to get no laff boost at Hollywood 12? All I could think about was the fact that there where toons out there that had put in little to no effort to catch 60 species and they were no better than me with 69 species who had put in days and weeks and months of hours of fishing. Make up your mind when you get that 60th species whether you want to be a 120 or a 119. I can give you all my speculation on fishing but the bottom line is ask anyone who has all 70 species and they'll tell you the same thing. You have to fish for a very very very VERY long time to catch the last 5. It's what sets the 120s apart. It's why random toons whisper to me "Wow" and "You are a Genius". I earned those fish....no such thing as luck. |

You guys really make me laugh.
Fishing is all just luck, the first 66 are easy with the right rod and right pond, the last 4 are just luck, after over 1 million fish I SHOULD KNOW, lol yes one million on one fish alone on the grand piano, oh and new records do matter u wont catch your fish unless u get the new records at all the ponds. now u go figure out wich pond u missed a new record at. Welcome to fishing in TT.
P.S. Still no grand piano |

![]() I have noticed that if you could place a grid over the pond(s), you would tend to catch the same fish types in or around the same location. I have been fishing in several ponds and have been trying to develope a grid location map as to where those elusive fish are hiding. Maybe I am dreaming, but it is a possiblity and there might be a certain spot in each pond from a certain pier to which the probability is the highest to catch each fish. |

Troubles went to a nice, quiet District -- Zanywood -- and started fishing in The Brrrgh's playground, as three of his needed Fish species can be caught there. After a couple of hours of building up a nice pile of beans for Toons of the World Unite, I was delighted to hear the "Muaaahahahahaaaa!" of a Devil Ray. My grin got even bigger when an All-Star showed up on my line about 5 or 6 casts later: All-Star/Devil Ray Report in The Fishing Hole Things calmed down a bit after that. It took Troubles about 6 hours to lure in a Grizzly: Grizzly Report ...and then, in the wee hours of the following morning, about 19 hours after I started, this guy showed up: Grand Piano Report 7,996 fish... three Ultra Rare and one Extremely Rare species... in the space of less than a day. Yes, there is luck involved in fishing. I've had many folks tell me that Troubles's run that day was possibly one of the luckiest rounds of fishing they've ever heard of a Toon enjoying. Incidentally, that was only the second time I'd done a "fishing day" on Troubles. The first was for only 8 hours and netted not a single new species. |

It's probability, none of this " Fish till you die ". Okay, You have all 70 fish, That's great. I have fished one day none stop, day until night only stopping to use the restroom or have a snack. I never got it. All I got were normal fish. The probability of getting a fish is still the same, no matter how many times you fish or don't fish. Look at it this way. I fished with my friend one day who hardly fishes at all. He got the devil ray on his first cast with a gold rod. This was also after I fished that whole day. It doesn't make any difference. The same probability is the same everywhere. Toons who have all 70 just hit the number on that probability. Think of it as also when a 15 laffer would get a devil ray on his first bucket while a 100+ laffer didn't get it for a year. The twig rod eased the probability since the devil ray is light by a little, but it's still about the same. Fishing all day, all night, doesn't do anything it seems but consumes time. I keep fishing and never seem to get that devil ray. Getting from a cold caller to a Hollywood is different. There is no probability. Just earning. You can keep fighting the VP and getting merits and you eventually reach it. Last edited by Mister Jellyroll BananaGoober; 01-11-2007 at 04:54 PM. |
