Doodle disappearing/gone?

My Daughter has bought a doodle twice now and they keep disappearing. She goes back home and theres no doodle. I'm sure they're are gone, since we go to the petshop and the return doodle button is greyed out. Can they die? Where would it go? is this a bug? Thanks.

I'll check, I have not been on my test acount in a wille and have not feed my doodle, so I'll seee if they can die.

We have four doodles on test. My 4 yr old granddaughter's doodle ran away. Both my daughter and I made sure we took care of all the doodles when we went home but the little girl's doodle left. It is off her friend's list. None of the others have left. Can't figure it out.
