I am still having issues, so I havent played as much. I get so tired of the disco dancing. I might try the Direct x9.

I also had this kind of problem with a broadband modem that uses standard TV coax cable, but I found a solution. The problem was unused cable ends by other computers in the house (The Motorola Surfboard modem can only use one per connection, so we move ours between computers), so I plugged the other cable ends with double-barrel cable splicers, hoping they would act like terminating resistors, and it actually did work.

Why don't you just connect a router to the Surfboard? I have mine set up that way.

I personally installed and wired my internet and router, so I'm a bit confused. I'm using the Linksys WRT54G and I dont recall changing the password or username. However, a blank un and a password of 'admin' doesn't work for me. Is there anything I can do about this? Could I reconfigure it at all?

I use a WRT54G. You can reset the router to the factory defaults by pressing the reset button on the back of the router and holding it down for 30 full seconds. This should revert the router's settings to the factory default. At that point admin as the password with a blank username should get you into the setup page.

Talking Thanks

Look, I really want to thanki everyone that contributed to this thread with workable fixes. My daughter and I have struggled with this issue for TWO YEARS, with NO help from Toontown or the occasional tekkie that comes over to work on our home network. His response was to suggest replacing a Linksys router which is otherwise working fine (no it wasn't Geek Squad ;-)! I have some grasp of technical issues and was able to change the router port triggering and Qos settings easily. So far it has worked like a charm in the space of time we would have been booted at least ten times.

Many, many thanks.

If you have DSL, you need a filter which plugs into your telephone jack and then into your telephone. These are not expensive or hard to find; Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Radio Shack would all have them.

I think Geek Squad is a great service provider. The only reason you people think
it is bad is because it has the word "Geek" in it.
