Ho Dang!

Wow, just wow. Thank you SO much for this post! My brother is a comp. sci. major and seriously tried everything to fix this and could not figure it out. But this worked extremely well and I'm so glad to have my game back. I kept getting shut out in VP battles and I'd nearly start crying!

I have a Linksys router, Model WRT54G and what I ended up doing was different than everything that was posted. I don't know if it's just my router or perhaps the model, but it would not let me just edit the Triggering as aforementioned.

First, I had to hit the QoS tab under Applications and Gaming. I enabled the functions and then under Optimize Gaming Applications I entered the two ports and put them on high priority. It wouldn't let me save like this, so if you have this problem then what I did was put Upstream Bandwidth on Manual and entered 10000. I don't know why it made me do that, but it did, so whatever.

After that I went to Port Triggering and did as stated above.

When I did the Port Triggering first, without doing what I did in the QoS menu it would not let me save because of "pre-existing settings" which I assume were the pre-existing blocks on either one or both of the Toontown ports. Linksys should really be notified and start changing their routers to include those two ports. It would save a lot of hassle.

I hope I helped!

Thanks again everyone!

I am a member of Geek Squad, so I have access to many different types of routers, and this has worked for each. (I give this advice despite the nasty comments TT support has said about Geek Squad to both me and my sister) as I want everyone else to be able to play.

The dropped connection issues I have seen are relating to packet loss, as so many other people have said. This is not due to wireless, as I play on 4 or 5 different wireless networks a day; it is simply a port forwarding/triggering issue.

You do not want to port forward, as it would only work with one PC, however, if you enable port triggering in your router for ports 6112 and 6667, this has solved the issue on every router I have worked with, at multiple locations. The range for the trigger and the forward should be set the same. A guide that might help can be located here. http://www.portforward.com/help/porttriggering.htm

If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself, you can always call in a professional and give them this information. I work for Geek Squad and have been on several calls to repair TT, so this is just a suggestion. Please let me know if this works for you, as it has all other machines. If not, I'll see what I can come up with.

since last monday i have been disconnected from toontown well over 250 times. i get disconnected signing in, going into tunnel, teleporting, using telephone, and the most horrific of all, during the break doing a vp. i have been emailing toontown since last monday probably like 20 times. each time they told me to get this, upgrade this...last few times they told me it was my router.
so....
i searched thru this forum (for subect disconnect) and found this guy knuckles fiddlefinger. he wrote all this stuff about packets and stuff but...the key is he also pointed out where to go and what to do. so.. i did it.
after not being able to be on toontown more than say 20min max all last week
i have been on since 0615 pm tonight and its now 1039. so better than 4hrs and no disconnect. i popped into and out of playgrounds AND hung out in the river and even did some gardening. now my computer is lagging cause i'm down to 40mg of ram, i starter playing toontown tonight with 620mg so u can see the memory problems gardening has caused. but ... my point is, i am cautiously optomistic that if i could play for 4.25 hrs tonight, after doing what he said to my router, then perhaps it is the solution for others?

Is Mac to blame!

I am back to broken connections since the update to let Macintosh users on. Did Disney rewrote the codes? I have not change anything since my last problem which was solved. Does anybody have any ideas?

I disconnect randomly from TT and sometimes have to reboot computer. The only thing that has changed is I installed IE7? I see that some have no issues with IE7, so what could it be?

I tried to setup port forwarding, but I can not setup my router as stated at the portforward.com. I open my router options and I do not have the option "Application Gateways" as stated. I went threw each menu looking for trigger points etc and no luck. I have a Belkin Wireless G router model F5D7230-4, but am connecetd with a cable. I opened all of the deafult guides and none
were even close to this router.

Any ideas?

I finially bugged Disney about it and Part of my problem was my graphics driver was outdated. Well a day later trying to find the lastest graphic driver and paying $8 for service charge I have the latest driver. I still disco but its a lot better. So I bugged Disney again and now they are blaming it on my network...go figure. Disney rewrites a program and tell us to Pay $$$ to upgrade our computer. You have to love tecnology.

I think I am on the latest IE broweser (version 7.0.5730.11).

Dear Knuckles,

Thank you so much for putting up a solution for the crashing problem. I had tried all that Disney had recommended and nothing worked. It's suprising that their support is so spotty on this issue. I am looking to get my nephews onto ToonTown and wouldn't think of giving it to them if I can't even get it to work.

So besides setting up the port triggering, I also:
Updated my Intel Chipset driver
Updated my router driver
Vacummed out the inside of my computer (yucky!)
Have 512 ram

Is there anything else I could do or purchase that would make TT better for these boys?

Thanks, FQ

Sorry I'm not Knuckles, but it sounds like you should be OK. 512 RAM is a little skimpy, but how well it will perform also depends upon what other programs are running on the computer at the same time. You might want to update the DirectX 9, it certainly won't hurt.

I prefer to use my husband's air compressor to blow all the dust out of my tower. It is much faster and easier, since I take the tower outside to clean it out.

Dear Lady Violet,

Thank you for your help. I did update DirectX and a couple of other things. I wish I had an air compressor - what a messy job!

What is DirectX 9? Well, I don't know because my mom won't help me fix this computer to make Toontown work...

FlyQ101, I wouldn't use a vaccum cleaner to get rid of dust inside a computer. You could vaccum up something inside your computer that is not dust.

Direct X is simply the software that makes your graphics run. Go to Yahoo or Google and search for "Direct X". You will see the site that will let you update this important software. It is free and will give you complete instructions on how to install it. Keeping this software current is important because Disney will update Toontown to run best on the newest Direct X software.

There is also another graphics software program that will run the Toontown program. Disney may tell you to switch to this software to try and fix problems. If they do, they will include intructions on how to switch. Direct X is usually the best one to use and switching is usually not a cure.

I found this thread because I was having major crashing problems and was really glad to find this thread. The info contained here is invaluable. I never knew about port forwarding before; I am really glad to have learned about it.

After much trial and error, it turned out that in my particular case the problem was being caused by the USB wireless adapter that I was using to connect to my router. I tried to do some reading about wireless routers and kept coming across references to adapters and XP sometimes having issues, the details of which I will admit to not understanding fully. So, just for the heck of it, I tried replacing the adapter with a wireless PCI card that was sitting in my desk drawer, and it did the trick.

If anyone that is having problems is using a USB adapter like myself, it's something to be aware of. A PCI wireless card is fairly cheap and could save a lot of headaches with your game, and you won't have to smash your computer with an ax after all!

I followed the instructions here, but I'm still disconnecting almost as often as before. Does anyone have any other methods I can try?
