Thank you so much for this information. We had the exact same problem happen after we bought the Linksys router and installed it today. (Since we switched DSL servers we had to change our router to Linksys-the only one they supported) We started getting disconnected every few minutes on both computers. After reading your posts we ended up calling Linksys support and they directed us through the port triggering process. Im happy to say that now we are playing with no disconnects. Yay!

Thanks again!

Certainly thank Knuckles Fiddleflinger; the only person after a year who could find me the right answer.

Nice info. My friends and I have been having this problem for a couple of years! Although I might have to consult a computer specialist just to figure out what that info is trying to tell me....

If you check out this guide, I think you will find it helpfull. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm Select your router make/model from the list (or as close as possible). It will then show a list of applications/programs, but, if you look above the list, you will see a link for the default guide. Click on this link, and it will show you step by step how to setup the port triggering. The ports to use are 6112 and 6667. These will be entered as both the listening and forwarding ports. Basically, create two entries (one for each port), using the same port for all fields on each entry (all 6112 or 6667).

If you are still unsure of completing this action yourself, I can provide the information to you directly for a service professional. I can also give pricing relating to Geek Squad, if you are interested. This is not a solicitation; it is the only company with who's pricing I am familar. I will be happy to provide this information to any company. Just PM me for further details.

I'd like to see this thread stickied

Judging by the amount of positive feedback, I think this information should be made easily accessible.

I told a long time sf to read this thread. He had subscribed to a second account so his family could play together, but whoever played on the laptop kept getting disconnected. He was thrilled and said he will try it.

You never said what the Internet Problem is, you just said its broken so how does the end user know if this is the right solution but port forwarding posses a MAJOR SECUIRTY RISK and leaves your system vulnerable to hackers, I would not recommend it. Probably 3 quaters of the people viewing thread has no idea what the link to that article means, I barely understood that.
[INDENT]Knuckles, you know your stuff. QUICK, you do NOT! Why are you bashing the only person who has made it possible for so many toons to stay connected by slamming the Geek Squad? Do they even have a Geek Squad in Australia?......didn't think so. This isn't some egotistical male competition to see who can fix the most computers...its one toon helping another. He's not asking for anything in return...not even for us to befriend him on TT! The fact of the matter is, other toons getting booted affects all of us. Try VPing and losing half your toons because of this ridiculous problem. I've read on several forums trying to find the fix. I've also seen everyone responding positively to his suggestion except you. I followed the instructions and the link to the guide and guess what....no more disconnects! Guess what else I dont have....people hacking me! Toons, if you are having withdrawls from not being able to play TT for more than three minutes at a time....follow Knuckles Fiddleflinger's advice! It really works!!!

His soultion has worked on some computers. We don't have the Geek Squad in Australia but...

I know that this is not a competition and I haven't even thought of fixing the most computers as a competition so far so I don't even know why you are criticizing me!

I've been on DSL for one year, then got cable and have been on it one year now and never any problems with TT till we got a wireless router. TT was no help at all but I did all the suggestions anyways just in case, still got disconnected. With Linksys on the phone we did several things and upgraded the firmware after which they told me this is all that we can do, but I'm still getting disconnected. So I'm ready to give Knuckles suggestion a try! Thanks for the help.

The reason you see the lag is you have lowered the maxium size of the packet (information) that your router can send in a single instance. Before, it was able to send 1500 Bits of information, where as now it is 900. I would try a few other MTU settings, closer to the 1500 to see if that perhaps helps. Also, DSLreports.com has a tool to help you determine the best MTU setting for YOUR connection. I apologize, as I do not have a link handy.

I was aware of the packets but wanted to give it a try first, but the lag started to get bad. I wasn't able to find a MTU level that would work, so I did the port triggering as you suggested and that has worked well. Thanks for your help it's greatly appreciated since TT techs are of little help.

The Geek Squad is excellent where I live (NYC). In fact after having someone over to upgrade my memory - I can work on others' computers but mine - I would definitely trust them for future hardware maintenance. Even the Geek I spoke with on the phone while setting up the appointment knew what I was talking about and was easy to discuss things with.

I do not have a router. I have Win98SE with an ethernet cable directly into the modem. For the past two or three days I have not been able to finish a CFO or Mint run. I also lost connection during the VP today. Roadrunner insists is isn't on their end but did see there was a setting on their side configured for a router and changed it. Then I lost connection in a CFO so that solved nothing.

I can be on for hours gardening and running buildings etc. But go into one of these boss runs (I reboot before doing so btw), and I get chopped. It isn't at the same point in the game. Twice on Friday btw I got disconnected in Cashbot while waiting by the CFO door for other toons.

I sent a bug report but I already know the answer to that one. If you have a better explanation I'm game. I trust the Geek Squad.
